He Gave My Dream to Another Woman? I Took It Back with Interest! Chapter 08

If I had heard him say that in my previous life, I would have been overjoyed.

But now I knew better. He could not do it.

And even if he wanted to, Natalie would never let him go so easily.

He sat there in that chair watching me the entire night.

I could tell he had things he wanted to say, but what did that have to do with me? I had no interest in hearing any of it.

Early the next morning, I went home.

The moment Mrs. Walker saw me, she put down what she was doing and hurried over.

“How are you doing? Looks like you’re all right now.”

I smiled and nodded. “I still need to thank you for getting me to the hospital. Otherwise I probably would’ve ended up anemic.”

Seeing that I was still in the mood to joke, she finally relaxed. Then she glanced around, leaned closer, and lowered her voice.

“Your husband came back this morning and had a huge fight with your sister. From what I could hear, he told her to move out right away.”

That actually caught me off guard. I had not expected him to be capable of being that firm.

After thanking Mrs. Walker again and again, I went inside.

The place was still a mess. Torn scraps of paper were everywhere, and Natalie sat at the dining table in a daze.

“Happy now?”

My eyelids flickered, but I said nothing.

“Don’t think this means you’ve won. Why do you get to take everything that was supposed to be mine and still end up living better than I do? You should have been the one to marry Ryan, that short-lived loser, not me. I should’ve been the one who married Ethan.”

“I’m not moving out.”

I honestly did not understand why she insisted on blaming the failure of her life on me when every choice had been hers from the beginning.

I had never even been given the right to object.

I set the medicine down on the table and looked at her with a trace of pity.

“Last night, Ethan said he only takes care of you because of Ryan. He also said there was no way he would ever divorce me.”

Natalie’s fingers, pressed against the tabletop, slowly turned white. She bit down so hard on her lip that I could already see tiny beads of blood forming there.

The hatred in her eyes was no longer something she could hide.

And I knew a person like her would never take the straight road. She was bound to do something reckless.

Ethan moved quickly. By that afternoon, he had already found her another place and was making arrangements for Natalie to move out.

When I woke up from a nap, the room had already been cleaned.

Ethan was in the kitchen, busy cooking.

It was the first time I had ever seen him make a meal.

He must have felt me watching, because he turned around with the spatula still in his hand and smiled at me.

“Go sit on the couch for a minute. It’ll be ready soon.”

I answered softly and turned toward the living room.

Before I could even sit down, a frantic knock rattled the door.

“Ethan, you have to come quick… Lily, Lily’s burning up. Her fever won’t come down, and she throws up everything she eats…”

“Please help me… I really don’t know what to do…”

She cried as she spoke.

To be fair, Natalie really was beautiful, the kind of bright, striking beauty that drew every eye in the room. Now, with tears spilling down her face, even I almost felt sorry for her.

I stepped aside to let her in, then went back to sit on the couch.

Hearing the commotion, Ethan came out of the kitchen and frowned.

“If she’s sick, take her to the hospital. I’m not a doctor.”

It was probably the first time Natalie had ever been turned down by

him, and for a moment she looked completely at a loss, standing frozen in the doorway with tears running down her face.

I did not know how much time passed before Ethan finally gave in.

He grabbed his coat and called out to me, “Claire, go ahead and eat. I’ll be back soon.”

But I knew he would not be coming back.

The two of them walked farther and farther away until they disappeared from sight.
