He Gave My Dream to Another Woman? I Took It Back with Interest! Chapter 03

The moment Natalie heard what I said, she struggled to yank her arm out of Ethan’s grasp.

The entryway in the faculty housing unit was already narrow to begin with. Now, with three people crammed into it, there was barely room to turn around.

I stepped back and watched the two of them coldly as they pulled against each other.

Ethan was nothing like his usual gentle self. His face was flushed red with anger.

“How can Natalie be compared to you? She’s suffered enough since she was young. She finally made it back, and now she’s raising a child on her own.”

“You’re a woman too. How can you have so little compassion?”

I looked at his bloodshot eyes and, for a moment, felt almost dazed.

In my last life, I had raised a child on my own too.

Everyone revolved around Natalie.

I had been the only one juggling everything, taking care of our son, taking care of both sets of parents, handling every big problem and every small crisis because no one else ever would.

And the two of them? They spent their entire lives carefree, traveling, laughing, and enjoying themselves.

A dull ache suddenly tightened in my chest. I pressed a hand to it, then lifted my eyes to Ethan.

“Fine. I feel sorry for her. So go ahead, take her back to your place, and while you’re at it, hand over next month’s paycheck too.”

“If you’re leaving, then leave now. Once Mrs. Walker next door wakes up, the whole neighborhood will know about the two of you by tomorrow.”

After saying that, I did not bother waiting for their reaction. I turned and walked straight into the bathroom.

In this life, I only wanted to live for myself.

A long while later, Ethan’s voice drifted in faintly from the doorway.

“The rain’s too heavy. I’ll take Natalie back first. Go to sleep early. I’ll come back later.”

The sound of running water mixed with the clear click of the wooden door opening and closing. But the ache that had been pressing against my chest was suddenly gone.

After I finished showering and changed clothes, I reached up to the top of the bookshelf and took down a thick book.

Inside was the savings I had scraped together over the years.

Most of Ethan’s pay went to Natalie. What was left, he gave to his mother.

Almost all of our household expenses were covered by my salary. Even this apartment had been assigned to me by the university after I became a professor’s assistant.

I pulled out the few bills tucked inside, stuffed them into my pocket, and only then did I finally go to bed satisfied.

From today on, Ethan, whoever you choose to play savior to has nothing to do with me.

He did not come back until early the next morning, and when he did, there were dark circles under both eyes.

“What you said last night really went too far. Natalie cried the entire night and refused no matter what I said to stay at my place. Come with me later and apologize to her.”

“Did you make breakfast? You can bring some along.”

He had just opened his mouth to keep talking when he noticed how pale I was, slumped weakly against the couch.

His expression changed immediately. He hurried over and reached out to touch my forehead.

“How did your fever get this bad without telling me?”

I brushed his hand away, lowered my head, and took a sip of water to wash down the bitter taste of medicine in my mouth.

For the past several years of marriage, I had taken care of every detail of his daily life. Sometimes I had even prepared things for Natalie too.

But now, I did not want to do any of it anymore.

Our marriage had always been a calculation from the very beginning. And now it was time for it to end.

When I said nothing, Ethan hesitated for a few seconds before speaking again.

“About that competition coming up… could you give your spot to Natalie?”
