On the Wedding Day, I Married the Groom’s Uncle Chapter 07

Beckett held me in the back seat. The driver flew. Ten minutes. Hospital.

I was wheeled into the delivery room. Forty minutes later, I delivered a stillborn boy.

The doctor began the standard procedure. To take him away.

I stopped her. “Bring him to me.”

The doctor hesitated. “Mrs. Hamilton. It might be better not to. The image can stay with you.”

My voice was a whisper. “He’s my child. I need to send him off.”

Beckett gave a nod. The doctor placed the baby in my arms.

His skin was red. He was barely bigger than my hand. I held him so carefully. So gently. Scared I might hurt him.

Just this morning, he’d been rolling around inside me. Playing with me. Now he was still. Silent. Gone forever.

Tears streamed down my face. “Baby. Mama couldn’t protect you. I’m so sorry.”

“Baby. Don’t be angry with Mama. Don’t hold a grudge. Please. Just wake up. Please.”

I laid him against my chest. Trying to give him my warmth. Hoping for a miracle. Nothing happened.

Beckett wrapped his arms around us both. His eyes were red. I knew his grief was as deep as mine.

This man. Ten years older than me. He picked me up off that wedding floor after Jagger threw me away like trash. I thought it was duty. Until I handed him divorce papers and he tore them to pieces in front of me.

He said he’d lost his mind the moment I walked onto that stage in my wedding dress. He said he’d lived thirty-four years without feeling a thing for anyone. Until me.

Now his arms trembled around our dead child. We both understood that pain.

After the wedding, he spoiled me relentlessly. Jewelry. Couture. They appeared before I even asked. He was attentive in every way.

I had a young girl’s heart. I fell for him. Yes, he was older. But that only made him more magnetic. Every night, he made me dizzy with adoration.

Then I saw a friend’s newborn. My heart melted. I wanted a child.

Beckett’s condition made it nearly impossible. But for me, he went to every doctor. Across the country. Overseas. Endless treatments.

The day I tested positive, he gave every employee an extra month’s salary. He wanted the whole world to share our joy.

The night I first felt the baby kick, Beckett kissed my belly. He said his life was complete. Just me and this child.

The crib. The tiny clothes. The toys. We’d picked everything out together. Every item was a welcome. Every item was love.

Now it was all gone.

My mind filled with their faces. Jagger. Tatum. Twisted and vicious. Hatred burned through me. Pure. Bone-deep. I wanted them torn apart.

“Beckett. Jagger Hamilton and Tatum Hamilton killed our child.”
