While He Waited in Aspen, I Married His Rival Chapter 20

While He Waited in Aspen, I Married His Rival Chapter 20

Ethan showed me a news alert: Chloe Vance had been abandoned at the five-star hotel in Aspen.

Before Liam left, he had taken her phone and all her credit cards, then informed the front desk that all expenses were to be settled by her personally.

She couldn’t afford the exorbitant suite. Her credit collapsed. After Liam’s private jet took off, she was stranded, with no way to contact the outside world. Her parents were reportedly scrambling to raise money to get their daughter out of Colorado.

As for Liam Henderson, after losing a lawsuit over his fraudulent treatment of investors, he had fallen apart completely. The tech bro who had once believed capital could conquer anything now spent his days drinking, unshaven and nearly deranged.

One of them had desperately yearned for the glamour of Aspen and would now remain there in the most wretched way possible.

The other had been so sure I couldn’t survive without him. But now that I had truly left, he was the one who couldn’t seem to go on living.

“Feeling vindicated?” Ethan’s voice was a low murmur beside my ear. He thoughtfully held a glass of water to my lips. “If not, I can always buy back his bankrupt company and have him manage the stables for us.”

My body still ached from the night before. I gave his chest a light, weak thump.

“Why did you wait until after he proposed to finally get your act together and tell me how you felt? Couldn’t you have done it sooner?”

“I was wrong, Ava. I regret it every day.” He raised his hand in a solemn vow, but the smile in his eyes gave him away. “I swear on the land of Blackstone Valley, if I could do it over, I would have carried you off from that college dance and married you on the spot.”

My anger softened. “Go get me another glass of water,” I ordered lazily.

He immediately got up to do it.

I looked around the room I’d lived in my whole life. Outside the window stood the century-old oak that had witnessed our wedding, the place my grandfather had loved most.

Everything here was filled with my family’s presence, as if they had never left.

Thank you, Grandfather.

Thank you for watching over me, for letting me pull back from the edge of the abyss and make the right choice.

Now, you can rest in peace.
