In that blinding moment of clarity, Liam reached out and tore the necklace from Chloe’s neck.

The chain snapped. Chloe screamed, clutching her throat as she staggered back, a red welt already rising on her fair skin.

But Liam didn’t hear her. He stared at her terrified face, his voice low and cold, every word laced with poison.

“Your ‘professionalism’ was just you constantly pushing me to test her limits, wasn’t it?”

“You were the one who moved the wedding from the ranch to this hotel. You were the one who turned her family’s brand into a ridiculous logo.”

“And this.” He opened his palm. The altered brand pendant looked like a cruel joke. “I mentioned it once, and you treated it like a gift from me, wearing it around your own neck?”

All of Liam’s confusion, his irritation, his blind stupidity from the last four months, coalesced into a single, burning point of regret and rage.

“It’s like I was under a spell… For four months, I couldn’t see how wrong I was,” he murmured, the pain in his voice impossible to hide.

He suddenly lifted his head, the fire in his eyes hot enough to incinerate her.

“She just didn’t show up in Aspen. She just decided not to marry me, and I’m already in this much pain.”

“For four months, because of you, because of this damn project, I disappointed her again and again. I trampled on her pride… How much must she have hurt?”

His gaze swept wildly around the room before landing on a stack of resort brochures on the table. On the cover, the logo Chloe had designed and her name as project lead were printed side by side, an enormous, mocking joke.

Liam lunged for them, grabbing the thick stack of glossy paper and tearing it to shreds.

Confetti flew, scattering across the expensive carpet.

He pointed at the door and roared one final word at the ashen-faced Chloe.

“Out!”
