No Longer the Alpha’s Guardian Chapter 20

No Longer the Alpha’s Guardian Chapter 20

On TV, the news played.

Audrey was engaged to Noah.

A family lunch at a hotel.

Elijah got back in his car and drove.

Under a crystal chandelier, I walked in on Noah’s arm.

Applause filled the room.

Whispers followed.

“What does Alpha Noah see in her? She’s divorced.”

“Right. He could have found someone better. Someone clean.”

I heard them. I didn’t care.

Noah glanced in their direction. The room went silent.

“Audrey is my fiancée. If anyone speaks against her again, you will answer to me.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

The man shrank back.

I smiled.

Halfway through the lunch, the doors burst open.

Elijah stormed in, red-faced, and grabbed my arm.

“Audrey. We barely break the bond and you’re already engaged? You called me a cheater, but look at you. I felt guilty. I thought I was the one who ruined us. But you were seeing someone else all along. You stole my money. You’re nothing but a lying whore.”

“Excuse me?”

I laughed in his face.

I ripped my arm free and slapped him.

“Elijah, did you even read the dissolution papers? Your lawyer wrote them. Every dollar you made for the past five years—half of it belongs to me. Taking what’s mine isn’t stealing.”

I stepped closer, letting him see the hatred in my eyes.

“Do you know how much you spent on Kelly this year alone? And that contract you tore up—the one worth hundreds of millions? You said Kelly was worth more than that. So that’s on you.”

He tried to speak. I cut him off.

“Without my father, your pack and your company would have collapsed years ago. I gave you everything. And you took it for granted. You cheated. Then you blamed me.”

His voice shook. “What about Noah?”

“Believe it or not, my father arranged this before he died. But I don’t owe you an explanation. We’re nothing to each other.”

I turned to Noah.

“Let’s keep going. I feel like dancing.”

He put his hand on my waist. “I’ll dance with you.”

“I don’t want unwanted guests here. They ruin the mood.”

Soldiers dragged Elijah out.

“Audrey—I’m sorry—don’t marry him—I won’t let you—”

His voice faded.

I let out a breath.

“I’m sorry,” I said to Noah. “I didn’t know he would come.”

“It’s my fault. My security should have stopped him.” He looked at me seriously. “From now on, he will never bother you again.”

“I believe you.”

After that day, I never saw Elijah again.

Noah and I married a year later.

I had thought he was cold. Boring.

I was wrong.

He just didn’t know how to be around people.

But he was sincere. He gave me gifts for every holiday. He surprised me. Anything I liked appeared in front of me within a day.

When I was drowning in pack work, he cooked for me and brought meals to my office.

When I fell asleep at my desk, he finished my work for me.

A whole year passed before I realized I loved him.

Then I married him. Willingly.

Elijah… I heard about him on vacation.

“That guy Elijah—I think he’s waiting tables now. He keeps trying to make a comeback, but no one will touch him.”

“Good. Scumbag got what he deserved.”

“What about the other woman? The mistress?”

“She went into the oldest profession in the world. Caught something and died.”

“Gross. She had it coming.”

I didn’t comment.

I sat in the sun on my lounge chair and let it warm my skin.

“Honey.”

Noah had changed. He was warmer now. His voice wasn’t so cold anymore.

I took off my sunglasses and smiled. “You’re finally here.”

“Let’s eat. You said you were hungry.”

“I am hungry.”

I stood up and went to him.

Then my stomach rolled.

“Ugh—”

“What’s wrong?”

Noah’s face went tight with worry.

I laughed and touched my belly. “Nothing. This just happens when you’re pregnant.”

“You’re pregnant?”

He lifted me off the ground.

“I’m going to be a father.”

“Put me down—I’m going to get dizzy—”

I laughed.

The past was gone. I had a bright future now.
