The Anniversary Gift My Son Gave Me Was Hiding My Husband’s Biggest Secret Chapter 04

I turned and went back inside.

I closed the bedroom door and pulled a bottle of Holy Water from the drawer.

If the alpaca drank it, she’d be cursed.

Every time she spat, Serena’s soul would dwindle away bit by bit.

The more she spat, the faster she’d fade.

But the alpaca was smart.

Anything I fed her, she kicked over.

She only ate when Owen and Liam were around.

When they were gone, she’d rather go hungry and thirsty.

Liam blamed me, “Sugar doesn’t like you because you’re not patient with her!”

Owen chimed in too.

“Try bonding with it more and stop looking so grumpy. If it doesn’t warm up to you, just do something to win it over!”

“It’s our son’s wedding anniversary gift. You don’t wanna clash with it, right? Liam would be upset.”

I laughed inside, but acted like I was taking his words to heart.

“Got it. I’ll be more gentle.”

I crouched down, picked up some hay, and held it to Sugar’s mouth.

“Nice Sugar. Sweet Sugar. Just take one bite.”

She didn’t even look at me.

Then she raised a hoof and kicked me hard, sending me to my knees. Spit landed on me at the same time.

Liam saw it all. Instead of caring about me, he snatched the hay out of my hand and fed it to the alpaca himself.

She looked down at me, gave me a mocking glance, then slowly, deliberately ate.

Liam looked at me with disgust. “You’re such a mean woman! Sugar’s super sensitive. It’s clearly your bad vibes keeping her from eating!”

Watching the alpaca eat every last bit of hay, I barely held back my smile.

Of course I knew she wouldn’t eat from me.

I made Liam get upset on purpose so he’d feed her himself.

Because that hay was soaked in Holy Water.

That night at dinner, Owen said, “Oh, by the way, Liam’s preschool has an overseas study trip next week. One week. I’ll take him this time.”

Liam cheered.

I put down my fork and looked at them.

In my past life, I was the one who took Liam on study trips.

Now Owen volunteered himself.

He just wanted to leave me alone at home with the alpaca.

So Serena could speed up the body hijacking.

I smiled and nodded. I even helped them pack.

“Okay. You two have fun. Leave Sugar to me. I’ll take good care of her.”

Owen nodded, satisfied. Liam gave me a smile I hadn’t seen in a long time.

The next morning, I saw them off at the car.

The alpaca stood nearby, looking sad and reluctant.

She rubbed her head against Owen’s hand. Then she licked Liam’s face.

The moment the car pulled out of the driveway, my face went cold.

The alpaca sensed the danger and spat at me again.

I sidestepped, grabbed the long fork, clamped it around her neck, and tied her to the gate.

Then I pulled out my phone and dialed a number I’d saved long ago.

“Hello, is this Ringling’s Circus? I heard you just got a new male alpaca?”

The voice on the other end laughed. “Yeah, we did. Imported him straight from South America. Big guy. Strong. He’s been in heat nonstop, going crazy. We didn’t know what to do with him.”

The alpaca at the gate lifted her head and looked at me. Her eyes were full of suspicion.

“I have a female alpaca,” I said. “Perfect to bring over for breeding.”

The voice paused for two seconds, then agreed right away. “That’d be great! When can you bring her?”

“Today.”

I hung up and looked down at the alpaca lying on the ground.

She understood. Her whole body started shaking.

I smiled at her and tightened the rope.

“Relax. The best is yet to come for you. Just hope you don’t mind your new husband’s spit too much.”
