The Anniversary Gift My Son Gave Me Was Hiding My Husband’s Biggest Secret Chapter 02

Liam panicked. He shouted, “No!”

Owen’s face changed too. He quickly tried to smooth things over. “Sugar’s just a little nervous meeting you for the first time. You two will warm up to each other in a few days.”

“Liam picked this out just for you. Don’t let his sweet thought go to waste.”

I swept my gaze across their faces.

Both of them. Nervous as hell.

Worried their plan would fall apart.

I nodded. “I love the gift. Sugar, right? I’ll take good care of her.”

Liam let out a long breath. The tension in Owen’s shoulders eased.

I smiled, crouched down, and ruffled Liam’s hair. “Why don’t you two go fix up a place for her to sleep? She likes you both. She’ll love whatever room you put together.”

“Let me spend some time alone with Sugar. Bond a little.”

I pushed father and son into the study, then led the alpaca out to the yard.

We hadn’t taken two steps before she opened her mouth to spit again.

I sidestepped.

The spit hit the ground and sizzled. Bubbling.

That wasn’t alpaca spit.

That was Serena’s resentment.

Owen stood in the doorway and watched for another couple of seconds before he finally closed the door.

The garden was just me and the alpaca.

She tilted her head and stared at me. Pure defiance.

Then opened her mouth to spit again.

I was ready.

From behind my back, I pulled out a long pole with a U-shaped fork tied to the end.

I jabbed it right around her neck and shoved her to the ground.

She kicked with all four hooves, but she couldn’t break free.

I leaned in close and lowered my voice.

“I’m with you every day now. Piss me off, and you’ll regret it.”

“I can stab you dead with this fork. You know I can.”

A flash of fear crossed the alpaca’s eyes. Then she screamed with everything she had.

Father and son heard the noise from inside and came running out.

They saw me pinning the alpaca down with the long fork. Both of them were furious.

Owen’s face went dark. “Freya! What the hell are you doing?!”

Liam shot toward me like a little cannonball and shoved me hard. “You awful woman! Don’t hurt Sugar!”

I stood there and pulled the fork back.

The alpaca scrambled to her feet, ran a few steps toward father and son, and stared at me like she wanted to kill me.

I put on an innocent look. “Why are you two so worked up? I was just playing with Sugar!”

“Feel it. It’s wrapped in cotton. It can’t hurt her.”

They both froze. Their mouths opened and closed. Neither of them knew what to say.

I smiled. “I told you. We’re bonding.”

Owen took a moment to collect himself, then patted Liam on the back. “Apologize to your mother right now. You can’t talk to her like that!”

Liam mumbled a sorry. He clearly didn’t mean it.

I turned and walked back to the living room, hiding the coldness in my eyes.

This time, I’d make her pay back everything she owed me. One spit at a time.
