The Day I Miscarried, He Was Delivering Another Woman’s Baby Chapter 05

I must have drifted off sometime in the night. A cold sensation on my face pulled me back.

I opened my eyes. Soren was sitting beside me, holding a tube of ointment.

He looked guilty.

“Alessa. Does it still hurt?”

“I’m sorry. I lost control today. But you shouldn’t have said those things about Tessa in front of her customers.”

“She’s a single woman. She runs a business that depends on foot traffic. The things you said could ruin her reputation.”

I pushed his hand away.

“And?”

He pressed his lips together. Choosing his words.

“So. Could you make a public post and apologize to her? Just say the pregnancy hormones got to you. You were emotionally unstable. Everything you said was nonsense.”

“The day after tomorrow is the two-year anniversary of her pet shop. You work at a TV station. You know a lot of influential media people and influencers, right? You could help promote her shop for free. Just as a favor.”

The smell of the ointment turned my stomach worse than the litter box had.

“Soren. I’m asking you one last time. Are you sure this is what you want to do?”

He lowered his eyes. Didn’t look at me. But his voice was steady.

“Tessa cried so hard. Think of it as making it up to her. And think of the baby.”

“If you agree, I’ll come to every prenatal appointment from now on. I’ll make it up to you and the child. Double.”

I looked at his face. Quietly.

I couldn’t recognize the man I once knew at all.

After a long pause, I smiled.

“Fine.”

Soren exhaled, relief flooding his features. He moved to embrace me. His phone started blowing up.

I didn’t need to check. I knew who it was.

He left. Of course he did.

But this time, I felt nothing.

A few minutes later, Tessa called.

“Alessa. You’re such a joke.”

“Strutting around with that belly, playing the victim to get Soren to come back. And what happened? I sent him a few messages and he still came running to me.”

“If it weren’t for the kid inside you, he would’ve tossed you out ages ago.”

I used to hang up on her.

This time, I ran my hand over my empty stomach and let out a small laugh.

“That’s right. You know I carried his child. Soren’s parents care deeply about the image of a respectable family. So does he.”

“I’m guessing you two always used protection?”

Silence on the other end.

That told me enough.

“Then you should understand. As long as I’m carrying his child, he won’t divorce me for you.”

“Men like him will stray. But they won’t destroy their marriage for a side affair.”

“He told me just now that once the baby is born, he’s putting a large chunk of his assets into a trust for the child. By then, you get nothing.”

“As for you. You’re just someone he passes time with. Honestly, I should thank you. You’re wearing him out so I don’t have to.”

I heard her ragged breathing through the phone. Fury barely leashed.

“Don’t get cocky. I’ll make Soren divorce you.”

She didn’t disappoint.

Half an hour later, she sent me the video. Her and Soren. In bed.

A voice message followed.

“Alessa. What’s there to be arrogant about? I shed a few tears and Soren promised me a baby.”

“So we didn’t use protection today. As soon as I’m pregnant, you and that thing inside you can get out together.”

I didn’t reply.

Another word spent on someone like her would be a waste.

Two days later, Soren paid for a party at a hotel. Tessa’s pet shop two-year anniversary.

Friends were there. His close colleagues. Tessa’s longtime clients.

Tessa had already told everyone I’d be publicly apologizing to her on a live stream today.

At the designated time, Soren nodded to the guy at the control booth. The signal was given.

The screen in the banquet hall lit up.

My face appeared.

“Hello everyone. At my husband’s request, I am here today to offer Miss Tessa a formal apology.”

Tessa was already smiling the smile of someone who knew she’d won.

The next second, I smiled too.

“I’m sorry. After receiving the video of you having sex with my husband, I couldn’t help it. I vomited. I failed to properly respect the dignity of the woman sleeping with my husband.”

“As compensation—and as you requested—I’ll send a little exposure your way.”

“Now. See for yourselves.”
