He Wanted an Heir, So I Gave Him Ashes Chapter 21

Rhett’s mother sat on the sofa, a cold, refined smile playing on her lips.

“Don’t think that giving the Walker family a child means you can replace Ellie.”

Her voice was light, but the words were a poisoned needle, stabbing straight into Daisy’s heart.

“Ellie is the wife Rhett chose. She’s the one who turned this ranch from a pile of scrap into a brand envied across Texas. She is the only Mrs. Walker this family recognizes.”

Rhett’s mother slowly smoothed a wrinkle on her skirt.

“If the door to the Walker family was that easy to open, any stray could wander in.”

The words left Daisy’s face white. She forced a smile that was uglier than a grimace.

Fortunately, Beau did look remarkably like Rhett as a child, and Old Mr. Walker’s heart softened, just a little.

“Since the child is here, he must be properly raised,” he said, his voice a deep, authoritative rumble. “If you can’t teach him, he’ll be sent to a military boarding school. A Walker cannot be an ill-bred savage.”

Daisy’s heart sank.

“As for you,” Old Mr. Walker’s gaze landed on her, cold and appraising, “the press is having a field day. You should move out. Don’t stay here any longer.”

At the news that they were kicking her out, Daisy’s eyes reddened.

She still had no idea how bad the storm outside had become.

Not until Old Mr. Walker’s assistant handed her a tablet.

On the screen, the headlines scrolled by, each one a slap in the face.

*Walker Group CEO in Affair Scandal, Mistress a Former Bar Waitress*

*Rhett Walker’s Heir Scandal Deepens, Wife Ellie Vance Leaves Home*

*Who Is Daisy Sutton? From Bar Waitress to Billionaire’s Bedroom*

The headlines alone made Daisy’s hands and feet go cold.

What froze her blood was the collection of intimate photos of her and Rhett.

Kissing outside a motel. Embracing in a restaurant. Even tangled, disheveled photos from the secluded ranch cottage.

But they had always been so careful. Most of their meetings had been on Walker land, where they thought they were safe.

Who had taken these photos?

And who had released them?

Daisy’s mind went completely blank.
