He Laughed at My Tears, Now He Cries Alone Chapter 19

He Laughed at My Tears, Now He Cries Alone Chapter 19

Dragging his injured leg, he shuffled forward a few steps and stared at me, his eyes wild.

“Claire, who is he?”

“How can you let him touch you?”

“What does that make me?”

I smiled, then lifted my head and pressed a soft kiss to Adrian’s cheek.

Then I looked back at Derek.

“He’s my fiancé.”

“You?”

“You’re nothing.”

“I am the heir to the Monroe family.”

“Someone like you isn’t worthy of touching me.”

Derek went rigid.

They were the exact words he had thrown at me just a few days ago.

Now, I was returning them, word for word.

Adrian glanced at Derek, his expression one of utter boredom. He’d seen enough.

The window began to rise.

Derek panicked and reached out, trying to stop us.

But he was too slow.

“Drive.”

“Don’t waste time on him.”

Outside the car, Derek dragged his injured leg and chased us for a few desperate steps.

“Claire Monroe, come back!”

“Please, come back!”

But the car just drove faster, pulling farther and farther away.

In the end, he collapsed by the side of the road and let out a broken, guttural shout.

Without me, he never would have reached the heights he did.

Now, I had taken that path away.

And no one would ever pave it for him again.
