He Laughed at My Tears, Now He Cries Alone Chapter 07

I controlled a dozen businesses, and I’d let myself be cornered by trash like this.

I lifted my eyes to Derek.

“Are you really going to let your friends touch me, just for her?”

“Yes.”

“They’re my friends.”

“If they want to touch you, I’m not going to stop them.”

“Good.”

“Then I won’t be holding back anymore, either.”

“Claire Monroe, stop posturing.”

“What could you possibly do to me?”

“Didn’t she just sleep her way to the top?”

“Maybe she’s sleeping with someone powerful. That’s why she’s talking so tough.”

The other men laughed.

“What powerful man?”

“In New York, the most powerful people are right here in this room.”

“Let me go first.”

With that, the man snatched the glass jar from Tiffany’s hand.

He pulled on a pair of gloves and twisted open the lid.

The cockroaches inside swarmed out.

My face went pale, and my stomach churned.

“How about it, Claire?”

“Say you’ll be my little toy right now, and I’ll save you.”

“Stop looking at Derek.”

“He’s already thrown you away.”

“You can’t turn this around.”

At that exact moment, the last of the foam in the bathtub dissipated completely.

The men all surged forward, their eyes wide.

Tiffany raised her phone, aiming the camera at me.

“The real show is about to start.”

I looked at her and smiled faintly.

“I told you.”

“Until the very end, anyone can flip the board.”

The instant I finished speaking, I grabbed a towel, soaked it, and flung the bathwater hard into the faces of the men at the door.

In the second they flinched, eyes shut, I sprang from the tub, kicked one of them to the ground, snatched his coat, and wrapped it around myself.

I moved so fast that even Derek didn’t have time to react.

By the time my feet hit the floor, the bathroom door had been kicked open from the outside.

A group of men in black suits rushed in, forming a wall behind me.
