Reborn as the Romance Heroine, I Only Aim for First Place Chapter 12

My locker was at the end of the hallway beside the athletic field. At this hour, most people had already left, and the place was very quiet.

I stuffed the last of my old practice tests and notebooks into my backpack. The moment I shut the locker door, someone called my name from behind me.

“Tessa.”

I turned around.

Wyatt stood at the other end of the hallway, backlit by the sun. The sunset stretched his shadow long across the floor.

He had cut his hair short and lost some weight. He did not look quite as defiant as before.

He walked toward me slowly, as if every step took a great deal of effort.

“I have something to tell you.”

I did not move.

He stopped in front of me. His throat bobbed, and his gaze fell on my shoulder.

It was as if he did not dare look me in the eye.

“I’m sorry,” he said.

I said nothing.

“About that day… I never knew it was you. Chelsea said she was the

one who saved me, and I believed her.”

His voice was hoarse, as if he had held these words in for a long time before finally forcing them out. “I went to the hospital later to check the records, and I asked at the pharmacy too. You were the one who called 911 that day. You were the one who bought the medicine.”

He took a deep breath and finally lifted his head to look at me.

“I shouldn’t have treated you that way. I’m sorry.”

I looked at him.

To be honest, what Wyatt had done to me did not count as especially terrible.

But in the original plot, he had done many terrible things to the original Tessa. Later, he even tricked her into going to a cheap motel and then pressured her into getting an abortion.

All because Chelsea had told him the original Tessa was bullying her.

Because of that, the original Tessa had suffered a devastating blow, both physically and emotionally.

Wyatt looked at me as if he were waiting to be forgiven.

The hallway stayed quiet for a long time. Cicadas droned endlessly in the sycamores beside the athletic field, and sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting broken shadows across his face.

I slung my backpack over my shoulder and walked past him.

I did not say a single word.

I was not the one he truly owed an apology to.

And I had no right to forgive him on the original Tessa’s behalf.

In the original plot, he had relied on the original Tessa’s tutoring to get into MIT, and he had a bright future ahead of him.

Now, without her, it was uncertain whether he could even get into community college.

His punishment was still waiting for him.
