Reborn as the Romance Heroine, I Only Aim for First Place Chapter 06

Every day, I went to sleep at midnight and woke up at five in the morning. From morning to night, aside from eating and going to the bathroom, I spent almost every spare moment working through practice questions.

Even the System was stunned.

“Tessa, you really don’t have to work this hard. As long as you make the male lead and the second male lead fall in love with you, they’ll naturally give you a good life later.”

“And if one day they stop loving me, am I supposed to just wait around and die?”

The System fell silent.

After a while, it whispered, “They won’t stop loving you.”

I glanced at the problem in front of me.

“I don’t like putting my fate in other people’s hands.”

Love and romance were vague, fragile things that no one could truly control.

Only the scores on my tests and the money in my hands truly belonged to me.

…

On the second practice SAT, I was still ranked second.

Evan was first with a 1550.

Below him was me, Tessa Jensen, with a 1510.

Expressionless, I stared at the rankings. I had improved this time, narrowing the gap to within forty SAT points.

But it still was not enough. I was still too far behind.

Beside me, Evan had also come to check the board.

He looked at his own name and said calmly, “Tessa, some gaps can’t be erased through hard work.”

“I don’t know why you suddenly became like this, but Chelsea is your cousin. You shouldn’t have embarrassed her in front of everyone, and you definitely shouldn’t have gotten her kicked out.”

His voice was cold.

“Do you have any idea how much she has suffered because of you?”

His shadow fell across me from the side as Evan turned toward me.

He looked down at me.

“If you apologize to Chelsea properly, invite her back, and make it up to her, I might be willing to tutor you. Studying like this on your own won’t work.”

“Is she your dad or something?”

“What?” Evan clearly did not understand at first. Then his gaze sharpened. “What do you mean?”

I spread my hands.

“Are you this devoted to your own father at home? If you care about

her that much, why don’t you go home, kick your father out, and put Chelsea on a pedestal instead?”

“Tessa, stop twisting my words. I know what this is. You’re just jealous that I like her.”

“Let me tell you something. Chelsea may have nothing, but she’s kind and innocent. She’s far better than you.”

“I used to think you were unlikable but still decent. Now I see that you’re vicious and selfish. No wonder nobody likes you. Even your own mother likes Chelsea more than you.”

He looked at me darkly, a mocking curve lifting the corner of his mouth.

See? Even his insults had no originality.

Nobody likes you.

“If you want to go around worshiping random people like they’re your parents, that’s your business. You can’t attack other people just because they refuse to do the same. Honestly, why don’t you stop calling yourself Evan Blake and take Chelsea Carter’s last name? Be Evan Carter. Then you and I would practically be cousins.”

“Tessa, you—”

I truly did not have time to trade insults with him, so I turned and walked away.
