Reborn as the Romance Heroine, I Only Aim for First Place Chapter 03

Sure enough, the next morning, my homeroom adviser walked in, saw trash scattered all over the classroom floor, and her expression immediately darkened.

“Who had cleanup duty yesterday?”

The class rep checked the roster.

“Chelsea Carter.”

Right then, Chelsea and Evan happened to walk in together with their backpacks. My adviser called Chelsea over.

“Chelsea, you were assigned cleanup duty yesterday. Why didn’t you clean the room?”

“There’s trash everywhere. If everyone were as irresponsible as you, who would keep this classroom clean?”

Chelsea froze and instinctively looked at me.

Evan immediately stepped in front of her and said in a low voice, “Ma’am, Tessa had cleanup duty yesterday. This has nothing to do with Chelsea.”

My homeroom adviser frowned slightly and looked at me.

“Tessa, did you switch cleanup duty with Chelsea yesterday?”

I took off my glasses and stood up.

“No. I don’t know why Evan is saying it was my turn. The cleanup roster clearly says Chelsea. This has nothing to do with me.”

“You’re lying!” Chelsea panicked. “Evan gave you the broom yesterday—”

“So if he hands me a broom, I have to clean? Is he my father?” I said impatiently. “From beginning to end, did I ever agree to cover your cleanup duty?”

Evan’s brows drew together.

“I already told you Chelsea and I had tutoring to do. She’s your cousin and your classmate. Why can’t you help with one tiny thing?”

“Your decision to tutor her is your business. If you didn’t want her to do cleanup duty, you could have done it for her before leaving. I have my own things to do too.”

Without waiting for his reaction, I turned to my homeroom adviser.

“I’ve been feeling a little overwhelmed with school lately. I’ve had to study late every night.”

“I understand that Evan wants to tutor Chelsea. I’ve also covered cleanup duty for them many times before. But they can’t keep dumping it on someone else every time they don’t feel like doing it. That isn’t just irresponsible toward other people. It’s irresponsible toward the class and themselves.”

The class rep was on good terms with me and immediately chimed in.

“She’s telling the truth. Just this month, Tessa has already covered Chelsea’s cleanup duty three times.”

The other students started whispering.

“That’s hilarious. If they want to date, they should just date. With Chelsea’s grades, what is there even to tutor?”

“Exactly. She doesn’t pay attention in class, then acts like after-school tutoring will fix everything.”

“They saw Tessa was easygoing and just kept pushing her around. Evan’s pretty ridiculous too. He won’t do the work himself, but he’s happy to be generous with someone else’s time.”

Evan stared at me in surprise, as if he had never expected me to push back.

Chelsea panicked.

“I really had something to do. I had to go study—”

My homeroom adviser finally lost her patience.

“So everyone else has nothing to do, and only you have plans?”

“Chelsea, it’s good that you want to improve your grades, but no other student owes you their time.”

Then she turned to Evan, displeased.

“Evan, it’s good that you’re willing to help a classmate, but this has nothing to do with Tessa. You had no right to sacrifice her time.”

Evan’s face went pale.

My adviser glanced at Chelsea.

“The best time to improve your grades is during class, not by ignoring class and then dragging people into after-school study sessions just so you can pretend you’re working hard.”

“Chelsea, for the rest of this month, you’ll cover all of Tessa’s cleanup duties.”

“But—”

“That’s enough. Go back to your seat.”

Chelsea bit her lower lip and glared at me with hatred.

I smiled at her, put my glasses back on, sat down, and continued working through practice questions.

The System was already crying.

“When you’re this shameless and impossible to deal with, how is the male lead supposed to fall in love with you?”

“Protecting my own interests makes me shameless?” I glanced at Evan.

“Besides, I don’t want love from trash like him.”
