He Spent Three Years Hating the Woman He Loved Chapter 08

“She actually severely injured two officers before they had to forcibly inject her with a powerful sedative to restrain her.”

“I see,” I murmured calmly.

“That’s not even the craziest part,” Harper continued. “She was screaming that Julian had promised to marry her the moment she successfully removed Elena from the picture.’ The detectives brought Julian in for questioning, but he fiercely denied everything, claiming she was entirely delusional and framing him.”

I smiled softly.

Poetic justice. Julian and Chloe were now permanently locked in a mutual suicide pact of toxicity. Even without my intervention, their reputations within our hometown circles were entirely incinerated. They would spend the rest of their lives trying to out-poison one another.

I hung up the call and went back to refining my creative pitch.

In my third week, I received a phone call from Julian.

I was in the middle of a massive board meeting with a client that day. Over twenty people were sitting across the conference room. My phone buzzed against the table. I glanced down at the screen. It was an unrecognized number.

I picked it up anyway. “Hello?”

There was a heavy, three-second silence on the other end of the line.

“Elena,” a voice dropped.

“It’s me.” It was Julian’s voice.

He sounded completely hollow and exhausted. I glanced back at the corporate executives filling the conference room. My voice remained deadpan and perfectly level. “Who is this? You have the wrong number.”

I hung up without waiting for a reply. Then, I blocked the number instantly. That was the final conversation we ever had. T

he moment the board meeting concluded, Professor Montgomery dragged me out to grab a coffee. she looked at me with a mischievous glint in her eyes. “Elena.”

“Yes, Professor?”

“We have a high-profile client coming in next week to discuss a long-term partnership for his private gallery network. His name is Arthur Brooks.”

She took a slow sip of her tea. “He’s incredibly brilliant, grounded, and single. I have a strong inkling you two would complement each other beautifully.”

I raised an eyebrow, a small smile playing on my lips. “Professor… are you covertly setting me up on a blind date?”

“Oh, absolutely not,” she laughed, looking entirely like a pleased fox.

“I’m simply offering a professional recommendation. If there’s chemistry, wonderful. If not, he’s an exceptional business ally.”

I smiled. “Fair enough. Let’s meet him.”

It was the first time in three years that I felt zero hesitation about letting a new man enter my life.
