He Waited for Fifteen Years Chapter 11

He Waited for Fifteen Years Chapter 11

Something flared in Lowell’s eyes. Like he had finally caught hold of a lifeline.

“Because of Talia. Right? I understand. I’ll deal with her.”

He dropped the roses at my feet. Turned. Walked away fast.

A few days later, the Whitfield family declared bankruptcy.

Their money had come from oil speculation. A short, fast ride up. No real business instincts. No long-term strategy.

Their companies had been bleeding cash for a while. Talia’s spending had accelerated things. The cash flow had snapped a long time ago.

At first, I thought Lowell had simply gone after their business interests.

Then Talia threw herself at me. Nearly collapsed. Grabbed my hands. That was when I understood it was worse than I thought.

“Miss DeLuca. I know I was wrong. I know it. I shouldn’t have fought you over a man.”

“Please. Save my parents. Lowell has lost his mind. He reported my father to the IRS for deliberate tax evasion. The amount is massive. He’ll go to prison.”

I pulled my hands back. Hard.

“If Lowell was the one who reported him, you should be begging Lowell. Not me.”

“I know he did it for you. Please. Just say a few words for us. He cares about you that much. He’ll listen to you.”

“Will he?”

I looked down at her.

“Because I remember Mr. DeLuca announcing to the entire world that the woman he loved most was you. Talia Whitfield.”

Talia’s face went bone white. Her whole body was shaking.
