The Alpha’s Wrong Luna Chapter 04

The Alpha’s Wrong Luna Chapter 04

The sun was blazing now, the rippling water scattering shimmering coins of light. He stood with his back to the bare willow trees and the cloudless blue sky, looking down at me.

Suddenly, the cold didn’t matter anymore. I grabbed his collar and stared at him like he might disappear.

He was really back.

A whole half a year earlier than before.

He wrapped a thick cloak around me without a word, his jaw tight, and carried me home at a dead run.

I felt like a rabbit he’d just hauled back to his den.

“Why so dazed? Don’t recognize me after all this time?”

He teased me while drying me off.

I finally snapped out of it.

My nose stung, and I punched him—hard.

“You idiot!” My voice was hoarse, all the chagrin bubbling up. “You finally came back!”

“Do you have any idea what happened while you were gone? I—I—”

The words stuck in my throat.

My eyes burned, and tears came down like a broken necklace.

“Hey, don’t cry. Don’t cry.”

That’s when Darien panicked. He wiped my tears, clumsy with worry.

His rough, calloused fingers brushed my freezing cheek—strangely hot.

I pressed my face into his palm.

His lips tightened, and he pulled me gently into his arms. “I know. I know everything.”

“It’s my fault for being too slow. You went through hell because of me.”

His face blurred and swam in my tears. I suddenly remembered—back in the Blackrock pack, someone had secretly tried to get a letter to me.

But I never saw it. It got intercepted.

Right before I died, Logan told me with a sneer:

“Darien had some nerve. Trying to steal another Alpha’s Luna.”

“You know what he wrote? He said if you were willing, he’d break your blood contract and make you his Luna.”

“What right does he have? What claim does he have on you? You took Seline from me. You belong to me alone in this life!”

“I made sure every pack heard about it. Spread it through every alley and street. Now every wolf out there knows that the triumphant Alpha of Greywind is nothing but a scumbag who covets another Alpha’s Luna. I made sure he’s ruined!”

“You’re insane.”

I laughed with my last breath.

Watching his face, gaunt from the poison I’d been feeding him all that time—

The bitterness in my chest finally eased a little.

“No matter what you do, you can’t change it. My heart belonged to him years ago. And it still does.”

His eyes went wide, and I breathed my last.

The Greywind pack’s sacred grounds were warm with a crackling fire. I changed out of my wet clothes.

Darien sat in front of the den, his broad back blocking a big gust of cold wind.

“Why’d you come back so early?”

He glanced back at me. The shameless bastard actually said:

“I figured you missed me, so I hauled ass back as fast as I could.”
