He Dumped Me For a Heiress, Unaware I Owned His Whole Legacy Chapter 04

“I don’t care if you pave the way for her, Ewan. But not with this project. It was my grandmother’s dying wish. I will never agree to this!”

I protested, my voice breaking with hysteria, only to be met with Ewan’s cold, mocking laugh.

“Do you honestly have no idea where this experimental data came from?”

“Liora sent this research paper to my mailbox a month ago—an entire week before you claimed to start this project. You’re the one who stole her work.”

His single sentence sent the entire office into an uproar.

I trembled uncontrollably, burning with rage.

“Ewan, what are you saying?”

Ewan avoided my gaze without a shred of guilt.

All the strength drained from my body in an instant.

“You’re accusing me of plagiarism? When exactly did I do it? Where’s your proof?”

A sneer tugged at Liora’s lips.

“Of course I have proof. From what I know, your position would never grant you access to Ewan’s private office. So what were you doing sneaking around in there?”

The surveillance footage popped up on the screen, showing me glancing around cautiously before slipping quietly into Ewan’s office.

That day, I’d only gone in because I’d had a terrible stomachache, and Ewan had insisted I take medicine in his office. Back then, I’d thought I was the luckiest woman alive.

I never imagined that precious memory would be twisted into evidence to frame me for plagiarism.

I stared at Ewan’s calm, unyielding face, feeling every drop of blood in my veins turn to ice.

Clinging to the last sliver of hope left in my heart, I whispered, “You tell me, Mr. Knight.”

Ewan’s cold eyes locked onto mine.

“I have no knowledge of any of this.”

My eyes burned, tears threatening to spill over.

I’d endured him choosing Liora over me.

I’d endured him shielding her at every turn.

But this research data was the fruit of countless all-nighters. I’d pushed myself to the point of collapsing, sitting alone in the hospital getting IV drips in the middle of the night.

He knew every bit of my suffering.

Yet with one casual sentence, he’d branded me a plagiarist, humiliating me in front of the entire company.

I let out a bitter laugh, stumbling backward weakly.

“Ewan, do you really think you can develop this drug just by stealing my data and research ideas?”

Ewan glanced at me indifferently.

“If you behave yourself from now on, I can keep you on the project team.”

Every eye in the room was fixed on me, as if I’d be ungrateful and foolish to refuse.

Looking at the man I’d loved for five years, the last trace of affection in my heart vanished completely.

I turned, typed a few quick commands on my computer, then faced Ewan’s confident, smug smile.

My voice was ice-cold.

“I’ve sent my resignation letter to HR.”

“You can have the project too.”

Ewan froze in shock.

He knew how much this project meant to me, how it was my grandmother’s lifelong obsession. He’d been utterly confident that I would compromise, that I would endure this unfairness and keep working for him.

But he was wrong.

Liora sauntered over to me, leaning in to murmur in my ear.

“You’ve clung to Ewan for long enough. It’s time you give him back to me.”

“Elowen, you’ve lost your only hold on him. What makes you think you can ever beat me?”

The next second, she grabbed my wrist and threw herself backward violently.

Blood instantly gushed from Liora’s forehead, flowing uncontrollably.

Ewan’s furious, panicked voice exploded in my ears.

“Liora!”

Everyone present had clearly seen her fall on purpose, but no one dared to speak a word.

Ewan swept Liora up into his arms, his face dark enough to storm.

“Elowen, I hired you on your first day for one reason and one reason only—your rare Rh-Null blood.”

Two bodyguards stepped forward, grabbing me firmly by both arms.

Before I could react, Ewan’s ruthless voice cut through the air.

“The hospital’s Rh-Null blood supply is critically low. Liora has a bleeding disorder. She’ll die without an immediate transfusion.”

“She’s hurt because of you.”

“You will atone for this. Do you have any objections?”

My body went rigid, trembling uncontrollably.

“Ewan, I’m pregnant.”

“I can’t donate blood.”

“Please, spare me and my child.”

Ewan froze for a split second, but the moment Liora whimpered in pain, he lost all reason, his eyes filled with nothing but heartache for her.

“Elowen, you’re still lying at a time like this? Is saving someone really that hard for you?”

“Even if you are pregnant, so what?”

“This illegitimate brat was never meant to live.”

His gaze was filled with unbridled disgust.

I knew that look well. It was the exact same revulsion he showed every time his father’s illegitimate children were mentioned.

Pure loathing.

So all his promises of marriage had been lies.

Every soft declaration of love he gave me had all been a fraud.

To him, I was nothing more than Liora’s stand-in.

A disposable blood bag ready to save her whenever she needed it.

I clenched my palms tightly until my fingertips blanched white.

“Ewan, this is my child. You have no right to hurt him!”

A flicker of hesitation crossed Ewan’s eyes, but it vanished in an instant, leaving only cold cruelty.

“What are you waiting for? Take her away!”

The two bodyguards dragged me over and forced me onto the transfusion bed.

The nurse held the needle, hesitating to proceed.

“She’s resisting. I can’t perform the transfusion like this!”

“Miss Croft’s condition will turn fatal if we delay any longer!”

Ewan’s eyes reddened with urgency. He reached out and clamped his hands tightly around my neck.

“Elowen, don’t forget—you still owe me your life!”

“Save Liora, and everything between us will be wiped clean.”

Hearing the hatred in his tone, I suddenly stopped struggling entirely.

Ewan’s attitude softened instantly. He leaned down and pressed a light kiss to my forehead.

“You love me, don’t you, Elowen?”

“The signing ceremony with Hale Pharmaceuticals is in three days.”

“Liora has to be there.”

“I can’t afford to lose this deal, and neither can she afford to get hurt.”

“If you love me, stop being willful. I’ll make it up to you later.”

Seeing I’d stopped resisting, Ewan dropped all pretense of tenderness and ordered the nurse coldly.

“Draw the maximum amount. She’s healthy enough to endure it.”

I stared blankly ahead, silent hot tears streaming down my cheeks.

Bright red blood flowed through the tube into the blood bag. A sharp, twisting cramp erupted in my lower belly.

It felt like a part of me was being torn away forever.

In that moment, my heart turned completely cold.

Ewan, there will be no future for us.

Three days later.

The grand signing ceremony between the Knight Group and Hale Pharmaceuticals officially began.

Dressed in exquisite formal attire, Liora stood at the hotel entrance on Ewan’s arm, waiting patiently.

A limited-edition Rolls-Royce pulled up outside the venue.

The emcee’s loud announcement echoed through the entrance.

“Representatives of the Hale Group—Mr. Hale and Miss Hale have arrived!”
