After His Amnesia, I Severed Our Mate Bond Chapter 12

After His Amnesia, I Severed Our Mate Bond Chapter 12

A week slipped by, and the pack’s official channels finally buzzed with the news: Evander’s rival had been named Beta. It was obvious the council had wrestled with the decision, torn between the two candidates. With this verdict, Evander’s shot was gone, I could almost feel the tension thickening in the packhouse, a silent storm brewing over his authority.

Waking up that morning, I felt lighter than I had in years. The sunlight pouring through my windows seemed to wash away the shadows of my past, warming my soul with its golden touch.

My investments were flourishing, and my side hustle had grown steadily, padding my bank account more than enough for a

comfortable life. I decided to step back from my role as Luna and pour my heart into writing–not for the cash, but to weave my stories and thoughts for the pack and beyond. It was freeing, knowing I could finally shed the weight of Luna’s expectations.

Evander had faded into a distant memory, a ghost of a life I barely recognized.

Then, out of the blue, Evander stumbled upon my journal.

My neighbor, Anastasia, a Delta of the Silver Moon Pack, mind–linked me after catching wind of our split. “Luna Nalani,” she started, her tone a mix of caution and curiosity, “I heard about the breakup. Alpha Evander seems… off. He doesn’t grasp what he’s lost. And things between him and Zayla are… rocky.”

I sighed, knowing exactly where this was headed. “Anastasia, I’m not shocked. They’ve always been a volatile pair. I thought they’d find peace once I stepped aside, but it seems they’re just as mismatched as ever.”

“So, it’s true?” Anastasia’s voice wavered with disbelief. “Alpha Evander broke your bond, and Zayla was the one he did it with?”

“Yes,” I replied calmly. “They reignited their bond while we were still mated. Honestly, they’re a perfect match in their chaos.”

Anastasia fell silent, digesting my words. “If it were me, I’d have made them pay.”

I chuckled softly. “Revenge isn’t my style. I’ve moved on, Anastasia. Let them sort out their mess.”

The next day, Evander tracked me down. This time, he took me to a pack gathering—a step up from the coffee shops he’d dragged me to before. I appreciated the gesture but kept my focus on the meal. I had a hunch why he wanted to talk, but I was determined to savor

the food.

Evander looked worn, his usual commanding aura dimmed. His skin was pale, and dark circles shadowed his eyes. “Not sleeping well, Alpha?” I asked, keeping my tone neutral.

“Not really,” he admitted, his voice heavy.

I took a bite, letting the flavors dance on my tongue. “So, what’s on your mind?”

“I found your journal,” he said, hesitating.

My fork clinked against the plate. “Ah, that explains why I couldn’t find it. I thought I’d packed it. Where did you stumble upon it?”

“In my study,” he replied. “There were a few other things of yours there too. You must’ve left them when you were sorting through

your stuff.”

I reached out my hand. “Hand it over, please.”

To my surprise, tears pooled in Evander’s eyes. I hadn’t seen him cry since we were pups.

“What’s going on, Alpha?” I asked, my tone softening despite myself

“Nalani,” he began, his voice cracking “I didn’t know. I truly didn’t know how much you cared for me all those years. I didn’t realize how hard it was for you, waiting at home while I lied and spent time with Zayla. You were pregnant, and you wanted to tell me face–to- face, but I never gave you the chance. I didn’t see how cruel Zayla could be until I read those messages and notes. She’d say spiteful things just to hurt you.”

I handed him a napkin, pulling my dish closer. No tears in the food, please.

“Nalani, I’m so sorry. If I say now that I understand, that I don’t love Zayla anymore and never will, can you forgive me? Could we try again?”

I shook my head, my resolve unshaken. “Let’s not, Alpha. You and Zayla are bonded now. Your parents always favored her over me, and I endured their criticisms for years without a word of defense from you. You should focus on your life with her now and look after your parents. I’m sure they’ll appreciate having Zayla as your mate.”

“That’s not it,” he insisted. “Zayla isn’t what they imagined. They regret it now and sent me to ask if you’d consider rebonding with me.”

I shook my head again. “Evander, there’s no chance. I can’t return to that life. You need to focus on your bond with Zayla and stop searching for something you think is missing. You’re only reaching out now because you’ve suddenly realized I might have been more understanding, more mature, and less dramatic than Zayla, right?”

I picked up the journal from the table, clutching it close.

“Evander, I truly wish you happiness.”

As if. I crossed my fingers behind my back, dispelling any insincere blessings.

I left the gathering, leaving Evander to handle the bill. I’d have to find another spot for a decent meal.

Once home, I fed the diary into my shredder, page by page.

I shredded nearly a decade of affection for Evander.

If he searches his study, he might find a lot more remnants I left behind.

Evander had a whole cabinet dedicated to books. Whenever he needed one, he’d line it up right in the center on the right shelf.

When he sees just how much I once cared for him, how I tried to nurture our little pack…

The baby socks and tiny bibs I bought are still hidden there. Though I didn’t plan to have the pup, I wanted to create an environment where it seemed like I was eagerly anticipating their arrival, always reminding him he once had an unborn child.

There are parenting books, dolls, fairy tales.

I went out of my way to leave so much behind in that house.

Maybe each discovery will sting a little, and when he forgets, another reminder will surface and sting anew.

This way, every time he sees Zayla, he’ll remember how she disrupted our bond and the pup that never came to be.

I just want him to realize his life isn’t as perfect as he thought. I want him to feel the discomfort, like having swallowed a bitter pill.

If he ever learns Zayla was unfaithful overseas and her ex–mate found out, leading to their separation, I wonder if that will be the final straw for him. Especially since Zayla has had several miscarriages and will find it hard to conceive. I wonder if his parents will finally

reach their limit too.

These truths are with me, waiting for the right moment to reveal them to him and his family.

For years, I endured being manipulated by them using Zayla, so it’s only fair she gets her turn.

Plus, I genuinely have the time. I can delve deeper into Zayla’s past, and I’m ready for a long game.

Whenever I feel troubled, I’ll ensure Evander’s family has their share of troubles too.

If every mention of me triggers an argument between them, that’ll be just right.

After all this time, I’ve found peace.

I have enough money, don’t spend extravagantly, and my investments provide enough returns to support myself. And I no longer need

to tend to in–laws or a mate.

My parents, upon learning of our separation, didn’t say much. They just mentioned they’d join me once they retire. I’m looking

forward to it.

The future is mine to shape.

As for Evander and Zayla, let them be sealed in their fate.

“Nalani! Why aren’t you at the restaurant yet? I’m starving over here.”

My friend’s voice echoed through my mind–link, teasing me.

I grabbed my keys and rushed downstairs. “I’m on my way, darling.”

Here I come, new life.
