My Hockey Boyfriend Kept Me a Secret, So I Went Public with Someone Else Chapter 12

[Amelia’s POV]

Before spring break, a friend organized a camping trip. He said we could bring dates, and asked me to help fill the headcount. I decided to bring my “new family member.”

Turns out Chase was on the bus too.

And Rosie. Sitting right next to him.

I turned and glared at our friend.

He held up his hands. “He paid for everything,” he whispered.

The two in front talked and laughed the whole way, all over each other.

I ignored them. I got carsick.

Logan noticed right away. He got up, borrowed motion sickness medicine from someone, and made me lean on his shoulder. He put his jacket over me.

I usually couldn’t sleep when I was carsick. Today I slept like a baby.

When I woke up, Logan hadn’t moved. His shoulder must have been completely numb.

I felt bad. Before we got off, I reached over and rubbed his shoulder.

He smiled suddenly and pulled his jacket over both our heads.

“Can I have a different reward?”

Under the jacket, we breathed the same air.

We got off without looking at each other — both of us were bright red. Neither of us noticed Chase’s face, dark as a storm cloud.

The day passed fast. At night, we sat around the campfire and drank. Someone suggested playing Never Have I Ever.

A few rounds in, one couple was down to their last finger. They went all in. “Never have I ever kissed someone today without being officially dating.”

Everyone hooted. Couples put down fingers.

I looked at Logan. The firelight moved over his face. His jaw was sharp, his eyes soft. His cheeks were already red from the heat. His ears were burning.

We both put down a finger.

Today. In the car. Under his jacket. We’d kissed.

That meant my trial boyfriend had passed.

Then I felt a sharp look cut through me.

I looked up. Chase’s eyes were hard and dark.

A bad feeling hit me.
