[Amelia’s POV]

The rumors started with a blurry video.

A guy and a girl, huddled under the awning of a convenience store in the rain. Standing close, heads together, looking intimate.

I was the girl in the video.

After Chase had grabbed me in public — hugging me, holding my hand — everyone on campus already knew we had something going on.

Then this video dropped.

Suddenly I was a cheater. Two-timing my secret boyfriend with the new transfer student. The rumors exploded across every group chat and Reddit thread.

Anonymous accounts added their own twists. Each version got more insane.

Someone pointed out that Logan, a scholarship kid, had gone out of his way to sign up for a history class in my department, even though he didn’t need it.

Anyone who defended me got attacked by the anonymous mob.

Chase came to confront me the next afternoon.

He threw a stack of photos in front of me. Pictures I’d never seen online before. All of them from that day at the convenience store.

The angles made it look like Logan was sniffing my hair.

Same exact angles as the ones on the internet.

And there was only one person who’d been there that day and had access to unposted photos.

His dear little sister.

“You did all this for him? And you hurt my sister?”

I didn’t look up. “Why don’t you ask her what she did first?”

Chase shot back, “She’s a kid. What could she have done? You think she set you up on purpose?”

I put down my fork. “Your sister,” I said slowly, “has been bullying students with her little gang for years. Did you know that, as her brother?”

It wasn’t the first time for Violet. In high school, she had a record — but the Calloways had money. Things got swept away.

In college, she’d publicly confessed to Logan. He turned her down. So she bribed his roommates and made his life hell. She bragged about it. “Let him suffer. Then I’ll come save him. He’ll be mine forever.”

Logan moved out after that.

One incident after another. Did Chase really not know? Or did he just not want to know?

“My sister just wanted to get to know him. He’s the one who was ungrateful.”

I stared at him. The guy I’d loved for three years. Like I’d never truly seen him before.

“You trust her so much, why are you even here? I didn’t do anything with him. Believe it or not, I don’t care.”

I lost my appetite and stood up.

Chase grabbed my elbow and laughed. He pulled out his phone and re-added Rosie right in front of me.

“Then I don’t need to pretend with Rosie anymore.”

I looked at how childish he was. I felt nothing.

“Whatever you want.”
