The Don’s Regret: His Obedient Donna Is the Lost Heiress! Chapter 03

The Don’s Regret: His Obedient Donna Is the Lost Heiress! Chapter 03

The next day, Morvane Holdings held its quarterly summary meeting.

It was my last day at the company.

As the lead of the core project, I had to give the final presentation.

In the conference room, all the senior executives and several family council members were in attendance.

Alarion sat in the main seat, and for the first time ever, there was an extra chair next to him—with Ismeria sitting in it.

“Let me introduce everyone. This is our new project director, Ismeria.”

Alarion’s voice echoed through the conference room.

Everyone in the room exchanged confused glances.

Everyone knew this project was the one I pulled off through countless all-nighters, clawing and fighting to get it done.

Now the project was just about to launch and pay dividends, and he just dropped a new director out of nowhere?

“Also, the credit for the project in the south will be transferred to Ismeria. Does anyone have any objections?”

Alarion flipped open the document in his hand and scanned the room.

Every pair of eyes in the conference room locked onto my face.

Pity, confusion, mockery, just waiting for a show…

Ismeria lowered her head to hide her smug smile.

“Alarion, isn’t that a little unfair?

“This project has always been Virelle’s, how could I steal her credit?”

Alarion patted the back of her hand.

“You just got back to the company, you need a win to earn everyone’s respect.”

He paused and lowered his voice.

“She’ll understand. She always makes things easy for me.”

Alarion looked up at me, a flicker of apology crossing his eyes.

“Virelle, you… don’t mind, do you?”

I closed my laptop in front of me.

“No objections. Whatever you arrange is fine.”

Alarion breathed an almost unnoticeable sigh of relief.

“Okay, that’s settled then.”

After the meeting ended, Alarion called me to his office. He poured me a cup of coffee himself and set it down in front of me.

“Virelle, I wronged you back there in the meeting.

“Ismeria just got back to the country, she needs to build credibility. Just cut her some slack.”

He walked behind me and reached out to squeeze my shoulder.

“Next month, I’ll take you on a trip around Europe to make it up to you, okay?”

The second his fingers touched my clothes, I felt a wave of physical revulsion.

I stood up sharply and dodged his touch. Alarion’s hand froze mid-air for the second time.

All the strange behavior these past few days had finally worn out his patience.

“Virelle, what exactly are you throwing a fit about?

“I already talked to you about the project, Virelle. Is this really necessary?

“You were never like this before.”

I looked at his face, slightly twisted with impatience, and suddenly realized how ridiculous these seven years had been.

I fed my youth, my resources, my patience, my dignity, bit by bit, into the bottomless pit of the Morvane family.

And in the end? It didn’t even bother to throw me a bone.

“Alarion, do you really think that as long as you toss me a little bone, I have to be grateful and swallow every bit of humiliation you give me?”

Alarion frowned.

“What are you talking about? You know how I’ve treated you all these years.

“I admit I didn’t think things through with Ismeria. But you can’t throw away every good thing I’ve ever done for you just because of this.”

I let out a soft laugh.

“You’re right. You’ve treated me so well.

“So good that you gave my wedding venue to her, and put my wedding gift on her wrist.

“How could you be any better to me?”

Alarion’s face went pale instantly. He lunged forward and tried to grab my hand.

“Virelle, you know! Let me explain… that venue was just lent to her temporarily, and the bracelet was…”

“Enough.”

I cut him off.

“Alarion, I already signed my resignation. Starting now, your business, Ismeria’s business—none of it has anything to do with me.”

I grabbed my bag off the table and turned toward the door.

“Virelle!”

Alarion shouted my name from behind me.

The moment I stepped out of Morvane Holdings, the sunlight was so bright it made my eyes burn.

I took a deep breath of the fresh outside air.

It felt so good. I didn’t have to smell that stupid Bluebell perfume anymore.

Countdown to leaving New York—two days left.
