The Don’s Regret: His Obedient Donna Is the Lost Heiress! Chapter 01

The Don’s Regret: His Obedient Donna Is the Lost Heiress! Chapter 01

When I was trying on wedding dresses, my fiancé Alarion Morvane received a phone call, then walked over to me with a face full of apology.

He was the new Don of the Morvane family, the undisputed king of New York’s underground world right now.

“Virelle, I’m sorry. The Morvane island estate got attacked by a rival family. The wedding venue is locked down, so the wedding might have to be postponed.”

I gently adjusted his tie for him.

“It doesn’t matter. As long as you’re the groom, it doesn’t matter where we hold it.”

But the moment I turned away, I heard him talking on the phone with his secretary outside the hallway.

“The venue in the Maldives was booked for Ismeria’s rehab trip. It overlapped with the wedding location, so we just need to put the wedding on hold for now.”

Nico, his secretary, hesitated.

“Don, using a family turf war as an excuse to postpone the wedding… Donna will figure it out easily…”

“She won’t find out. I’ll rearrange the wedding with Virelle myself, and I won’t let her get wronged.”

His voice dropped when he said this.

“Until Ismeria’s condition stabilizes, I don’t want to think about anything else… We’ll figure it out later. I’ll give Virelle a better wedding to make it up to her.”

I stood behind the wall, and the wedding dress on my body felt so heavy it was about to crush me.

Years ago, when his first love Ismeria Veyra left him for a rival family, I was the one who stayed by his side and built everything from scratch with him.

But in the end? My thoughtfulness and understanding were just chips he used to win his true love’s smile?

I touched the pregnancy test paper in my pocket, then rested my hand on my lower abdomen and whispered to myself.

“Baby, I’m sorry. This time, Mommy can’t forgive Daddy.”

“Virelle, I’m sorry.”

Alarion pushed the door open and walked up to me.

“Baby, there’s shooting going on at the wedding venue. We might have to pick another place.”

I looked up at him quietly.

Seven years.

From when he had nothing at the start of his climb, to now being a billionaire worth over hundreds of billions and the king of New York’s underground world.

Had he changed? Or had I never seen him clearly this whole time?

I gently adjusted his tie for him.

“It doesn’t matter. As long as you’re the groom, it doesn’t matter where we hold it.”

Alarion smiled and lowered his head to kiss my forehead.

“You’re always so understanding… Marrying you is the best luck I could ever ask for.”

I nodded and didn’t call him out.

Understanding? That used to be a label I was proud of.

Now what did it sound like? Meaningless, and utterly ridiculous.

Consigliere Nico walked over, his eyes darting away nervously.

“Don, you have a cross-border meeting this afternoon.”

Alarion pulled out his black credit card and handed it to me.

“Virelle, I have to head back to the office first. Take your time picking out a wedding dress, pick the prettiest one. My baby deserves to be the most beautiful bride.”

I didn’t take it.

“No thanks. I’m a little tired, I want to go home first.”

He reached out to feel my forehead, and I turned my head away.

Alarion’s hand froze mid-air, his eyes darkened for a split second, then he pulled it back naturally.

“I’ll have the driver take you home. I’ll get back early tonight to have dinner with you.”

He turned and left.

My private bridal consultant walked over.

“Miss Sanzaro, this wedding dress fits you perfectly. On your wedding day, the whole New York will remember how you look.”

“No, thank you.”

Wedding dress, wedding, groom… I didn’t want any of them anymore.

I changed back into my own clothes, walked to a quiet corner, and dialed the number of St. Aurelia Clinic.

“Hello, I’d like to book a painless abortion for tomorrow morning.”

“Yes, that’s right. The sooner, the better.”

When I got home, I started packing my things.

There wasn’t really much to pack anyway. Most of the stuff in the house was luxury Alarion bought me, and I didn’t touch a single piece.

At eight o’clock that night, Alarion came home with a cake box in hand.

“I passed your favorite dessert shop on the way, picked this up on a whim.”

That shop was on the south side of the city. And the Morvane family compound was on the north side.

Only Ismeria’s apartment was on the south side.

“Thanks.”

I didn’t open the cake.

Alarion took off his suit jacket, and a whiff of perfume drifted out.

Jo Malone Bluebell—Ismeria’s favorite scent.

“Why aren’t you eating? You used to be obsessed with their mille crepe, right?”

“My stomach’s upset today. I don’t feel like eating anything sweet.”

His gaze landed on the resignation statement on the coffee table.

“You’re quitting? The wedding’s just postponed, why are you rushing to hand over your work all of a sudden?”

“I’ve been tired lately. I want to take some time off.”

Alarion nodded.

“Fair enough. You’ve been with me all these years, you definitely deserve a break.”

“After Isme… After this busy stretch is over, I’ll take you out to unwind.”

He almost blurted that name out—I caught the flash of panic in his eyes.

I held back a cold laugh and walked toward the bedroom.

“I’m going to bed first.”

“Virelle! Are you still upset about the wedding?”

I stopped.

“No. I just think… some things aren’t meant to be forced.”

When I closed the door, my phone vibrated. An email popped up from an encrypted channel.

[Miss Sanzaro, we have reserved a seat for you at the Sanzaro family meeting in London. As soon as you agree, the succession documents for the Sanzaro family will take effect immediately.]

Looking at the familiar message, I felt a little dazed.

I’d almost forgotten. I was never just the understanding fiancée by Alarion’s side—I was the only heir to the Sanzaro family.

Years ago, my father sent me to New York to keep me safe. It was here that I met Alarion, and over the next few years, I used every resource I had to lift him up to become the Don he was today.

The Sanzaro family had been waiting for me to come back this whole time, but what did I do? I turned them down countless times, all for a stupid man.

There was nothing to hesitate about now. Swallowing betrayal and humiliation was never the Sanzaro way.

Since he dared to betray me, he better be ready to pay the price.

I picked up my phone and typed.

[Okay. Have the succession documents ready.]
