Me, The Cheerleading Captain, Refusing To Be The Football Captain’s Mate Chapter 06

Me, The Cheerleading Captain, Refusing To Be The Football Captain’s Mate Chapter 06

I thought I had made myself clear enough that Ronan would stop coming after me.

But on Monday, when I went to school to handle my study-abroad paperwork, a cheer squad member ran over and whispered to me, “Willa, Coach Aurelian made Isolde leave the track team!”

Why?

I frowned in surprise.

This was different from me quitting the cheer squad.

Isolde was a freshman. Joining the track team meant she had earned a spot on the developmental roster, and she still had plenty of room to grow in the future.

“I heard Ronan reported her, but we don’t know the details.”

Ronan reported her?

I froze for a moment. Something about it felt strange, but it no longer had anything to do with me.

When I walked out of the building again, it had started pouring.

A crowd of people without umbrellas stood near the entrance. Some rushed straight into the rain, while others waited in pairs and small groups for it to stop.

Lyra called me and said she had asked her brother to come pick me up.

During that short gap, Ronan suddenly came through the rain with Isolde.

He stopped in front of me, completely soaked. He looked miserable and pitiful.

“Willa, I know I was wrong. I already had Coach Aurelian remove her from the team, and I found the footage from that day. During a break in track practice, she slipped into our locker room, took the water bottles and clothes, and put them in your storage locker to frame you.”

“As for the code to your locker, she saw it when she was standing behind you the last time we were counting supplies together in the equipment room.”

As he spoke, he pushed Isolde in front of me.

“Apologize to Willa. Now.”

The way he looked frightened the people around us, and several of them gasped.

A few people recognized us and began whispering.

“Isn’t that Willa and Ronan? I heard Willa couldn’t get Ronan to want her, so she framed another freshman and then quit the cheer squad out of shame.”

“I heard that too. But I used to think Willa was definitely the one who would end up with Ronan.”

“Honestly, Willa is impressive on her own. The video of her squad’s opening performance blew up on campus social media. The campus

paper interviewed her and called her one of the most influential students of the year. Why was she so stuck on Ronan?”

As we listened to those mocking words, both Ronan and Isolde trembled.

Isolde bit her lower lip, still looking just as pitiful as ever. “Willa, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do it that day. I only wanted to fill their water bottles, but they came back so fast. I was afraid that if they caught me, they would think I was some kind of creep, so I had to hide the bottles.”

“I was afraid Coach Aurelian would kick me off the track team, so I didn’t step forward and admit it at the time.”

I only looked at Isolde calmly.

In truth, I did not think there was anything wrong with her trying to win Ronan over. She simply had not known that Ronan and I had been together as mates for four years.

That was how she had accidentally become the other woman.

The rain hit the ground with a loud rush.

I sighed and looked straight at Ronan. “You always do this. Back then, you were the one who insisted we couldn’t go public. Now you drag her here to apologize to me. What are you trying to prove?”

“You still don’t understand why I rejected you.”

Only then did someone finally catch the real issue.

“Willa and Ronan are fated mates?”

I guessed that piece of news would become the biggest campus gossip story within the hour.

Ronan looked at me with desperate puppy-dog eyes.

“Willa, I know I’ve made you suffer for these past four years. Let’s hold our mating ceremony right away, okay? You are my only Luna.”

“From now on, I swear I’ll treat you right and only you. If you want to go overseas, I can apply to follow you there too. This time, I’ll be the one following you, as long as you don’t break our mate bond, okay?”

He had finally lowered that proud head of his and come begging me in the humblest way he knew.

Unfortunately for him, it was already too late.

I was just about to say something else to him. If this scene kept going, it would probably be all over campus by tomorrow.

Just then, a man’s voice came through the rain.

“Willa?”

I instinctively turned to look.
