Underboss’s Ex, Mafia’s Queen Chapter 04

Underboss’s Ex, Mafia’s Queen Chapter 04

The chill in his voice cut through the noise like a knife.

The lobby went silent.

He crossed to me in three long strides. He glanced at the hands gripping my arms, and his jaw tightened.

“Let her go.”

They let go of me as if I’d scalded them.

The smile vanished from Giselle’s face. Panic took its place. She took half a step back, her voice shrinking.

“Se-Sebastian-”

Her friends scrambled to regroup.

“Don Sebastian, it’s nothing! We were just sorting out a small issue-”

“She messed up the wine display, that’s all!”

“We were actually trying to help you

out!”

Sebastian ignored them. He looked at my soaked hoodie, stained with red. His lips pressed into a

thin line.

“Lena,” he said quietly. “Always getting yourself mixed up in trouble.”

I froze solid, overwhelmed by a flood of old memories.

That face. The way he said my name.

Sebastian. The boy from next door who used to walk me home after school, even when I had scraped my knees.

Before I could answer, he slipped off his coat and draped it over my shoulders. The heavy fabric wrapped around me, carrying a fresh, warm scent.

“Sebastian, wait-” Giselle’s voice cracked. “She’s just a delivery driver! She has a boyfr-” She pointed toward the elevator.

Vincent Romano stood there, fresh from a haircut, staring in shock at everything happening.

Giselle rushed on. “She’s nothing but a liar! Don’t waste your sympathy on her!”

“A liar?” Sebastian’s voice turned to ice.

He turned to Giselle, then to her friends, then finally to Vincent.

“Let me explain something,” he said, each word sharp. “This is Lena Moretti. Don Moretti’s daughter. My fiancée.”

His gaze locked onto Vincent.

“Now tell me exactly why my fiancée is on her knees inside my hotel.”

“Fiancée?!”

Giselle’s shriek echoed off the marble walls. She stared at me like I’d grown a second head.” That

can’t be right! She works deliveries for a living! She’s been with Vincent for two whole years!”

Vincent looked like he’d been punched in the gut. His eyes went from Sebastian’s coat on my

shoulders to the fury on Sebastian’s face. Something flickered across his expression-first shock,

then fear, then something uglier.

“Lena…” His voice was hoarse. “Is this… really true?”

He stepped closer, his eyes searching my face for answers.

“Why didn’t you ever tell me? All this time, you had me believing you were flat broke. You let me -“He stopped, his chest heaving.” Did you play me for a fool this entire time? Were you laughing

at me this whole time?”

“What about him, a Lombardi? What’s really going on between

you two?”

Vincent immediately slipped into victim mode, as if he were the one who’d been lied to, used, and

thrown away.

I pulled Sebastian’s coat tighter around me. It still held his warmth.

“Vincent Romano,” I said quietly. “You’re an expert at shifting blame onto others.”

He flinched.

“Who pretended to be broke? Who faked a broken spine? Who stole my mother’s ring just to please your precious Giselle? Who spent two years staging an elaborate charade just to make me suffer- watching me freeze in the rain, bringing you fancy meals, while you laughed behind my back?”

I stepped closer. He didn’t move. He couldn’t.

“Tell me, Vincent. Who was the real fool here?”
