When the Fake Heiress Ate Her Words Chapter 08

When the Fake Heiress Ate Her Words Chapter 08

That night, Ethan didn’t return until the early hours of the morning, completely wasted.

Mom and Dad took one look at him and understood that Claire’s baby wasn’t his. They couldn’t help but curse furiously.

“That shameless girl! We treated her so well, and this is how she repays us! All these years, she’s been playing us for fools!”

“That ungrateful wretch. From now on, she has nothing to do with the Hartley family!”

Ethan watched silently but didn’t say another word. Mom took my hand and placed it in his. “Ethan, you need to treat your sister well from now on. Amanda is your real sister. She’s suffered too much all these

years.”

Ethan looked at me for a long moment before nodding.

I felt nothing. I simply smiled calmly.

I still remembered when I was five years old, Ethan had taken me out to play. He left me at the

amusement park and ran off without me. The last thing I heard was him shouting at me in fury.

“Ever since you came along, Mom and Dad stopped caring about me! I don’t like you! Go wherever you

want from now on. Don’t you dare come back to the Hartley residence!”

I chased after him until I couldn’t run anymore. He never looked back.

That same day, I was dragged into a van and sold from one family to another. Then, when I was ten, my adoptive parents died in a car accident.

I wanted to go back to the Hartley residence. But when I reached the gate, I saw from a distance Mom and

Dad surrounding Claire with smiles. Ethan stood nearby, watching her tenderly.

Claire looked like a princess. And I was dressed in rags.

Mom glanced in my direction but didn’t recognize me. She was holding a pouting Claire in her arms,

comforting her softly. “Claire, sweetheart. You’re my best girl.”

Dad chimed in with a smile. “I was wrong. I won’t mention your sister anymore, okay? You’re our only daughter.”

I stood there until the pain went numb. Then I turned and ran.

Perhaps it was that resentment that made me prefer picking through trash on the street, finding ways to earn money, and working my way through school. I never thought of returning to the Hartley residence. Not until they found me this time.

Over the years, that hatred had faded. I felt nothing toward them now. No hate, no love. We were

connected only by blood.

“Amanda, what are you thinking about?” Mom gently took my hand. “Did you hear what I just said? I want to throw you a homecoming banquet so everyone knows you’re my daughter.”

I froze for a moment before nodding lightly. “Alright, Mom, Dad. I’m tired today. I’m going to rest now.”

I turned and left, returning to my room where I sat in a daze for a long time. Then a knock sounded at the

door.

I opened the door to find Ethan. He looked at me but didn’t speak for the longest time.

I forced a smile. “What is it?”

“I… Amanda, I’m sorry.”

I stood there, stunned. Ethan took a deep breath, his eyes reddening. “When we were kids, I was too immature. I just thought Mom and Dad treated you too well, so… I got angry. I never thought I’d really lose

you.

“After I grew up, I kept looking for you. I wanted you to come home. But when you came back, I got scared again. I was afraid you’d tell everyone what happened back then, so I deliberately…

“Amanda, can you forgive me?”

My nails dug into my palms. I looked up and gave him a faint smile. “What are you talking about? I don’t remember any of that. Go get some rest.”

With that, I lowered my head and started to close the door.

Ethan panicked, his voice breaking. “Does that mean you’ve forgiven me?”
