They Erased Me, So I Rewrote My Life Chapter 33

They matched up perfectly.

The director’s expression changed as she clicked through the files.

From scrutiny, to shock, to a heavy sort of weariness.

She removed her glasses and pressed her fingers to her brow.

“This matter… is far more complicated than I was led to believe.”

“That’s why I cut off contact,” I said. “This isn’t about being cold-blooded. It’s about self-preservation.”

She looked at me for a long time, then finally nodded.

“I understand. The university’s PR department will handle the media. We will also block the harassing emails. You focus on your classes. And if you need it, the school’s legal aid center is at your disposal.”

I thanked her and walked out of the office.

Leo was waiting for me, leaning against the hallway wall.

The sunset streamed through the window, gilding him in warm light.

“You heard all that?” I asked.

“Yeah.”

He came over and naturally took my hand.

“Eliza, you’re really brave.”

I tugged at the corner of my mouth, about to say it was just survival instinct.

He spoke first.

“I don’t just mean you’re protecting yourself. That’s hard enough. I mean you’re fighting back. A lot of people can’t do that.”

After saying that, he frowned.

“I looked at Savannah’s profile. The expressions and angles in those photos are too deliberate. She really knows how to position herself as the victim.”

“She’s had a lot of practice,” I said.

Leo tightened his hold on my hand.

“Promise me something. No matter what happens from now on, you don’t face them alone.”
