They Erased Me, So I Rewrote My Life Chapter 17

The next day, I arrived on time at the Walton family’s office in downtown Austin with my lawyer, Mr. Davis.

What greeted us was not a family.

It was a room full of suits.

Father’s campaign manager, Max. His chief legal counsel. His head of public relations. They were all there, a firing squad in waiting.

Father sat at the head of the long conference table.

Ethan and Savannah sat on either side of him.

In my last life, in this very room, I had cried, argued, and struggled, only to have them strip away the last thing I had in the name of “doing what was best for me.”

“Eliza, sit down,” Father said, his voice steady, the same one he used for the cameras.

I didn’t move.

“I’ll stand. Let’s get to the point. I’m on a tight schedule.”

Mr. Davis stood beside me, silent and solid.

Father was clearly displeased.

“Eliza, this is not an adversarial situation. This is a family meeting—”

“You threatened me with a lawyer’s email and you’re calling this a family meeting?” I looked at him. “You have a truly unique definition of the word ‘family.’”

Savannah immediately put on a wounded expression.

“Sister, we’re just worried about you…”

I didn’t even glance her way.
