My Villainess Script Has A Glitch Chapter 11

For as long as Nathaniel could remember, his mother had cried in secret, clutching a photo of his father. And the man who sometimes lingered at the edges of their lives, watching from a distance but never coming close — that was his father.

He didn’t understand why other kids got to ride on their fathers’ shoulders. His could only watch from the shadows.

One day, he ran into a woman he had always instinctively hated. She stared at his face, and her features twisted with something sharp and ugly.

She looked down at him, her lip curling. “You’ll never be half the man my son is,” she said. “Go tell your mother to stop dreaming about what isn’t hers, you little bastard.”

He never got the chance to ask who she was. His mother’s accident came first.

They brought him to the hospital. His father was there at her bedside, weeping openly.

The man who had always seemed so strong looked as if he had aged ten years overnight. Gray had already seeped into his hair.

“I’m sorry,” his father said. “I’m sorry to both of you.”

A month later, he had lost them both. They sent him to the Kensington.

The adults thought he was too young to understand. He wasn’t.

He understood everything — except why he had been the one left behind when all he had ever wanted was to stay with them.

He was drowning in it when she showed up. Chloe was a loud, restless whirlwind who wouldn’t leave him alone.

She never ran out of energy, and she never ran out of questions.

She asked about everything except the things that would have hurt him. She never once asked where his parents were or if he was an orphan nobody wanted.

And she fought for him. She cried over paper cuts, but she’d scratch and claw at anyone who came for him until she was the one left bleeding.

Even when she was clearly holding back tears, she’d straighten up and puff out her chest like she was ten feet tall. She told him she’d protect him forever.

Falling for her had been inevitable. No one who knew Chloe could have resisted her.

Then he heard something that shattered all of it.

“Nathaniel? He’s practically a brick wall — what’s there to even like about him?” someone said.

“I like a challenge,” Chloe said. “If I ask him out, he’ll say yes. And when he does, you each owe me fifty grand.”

“If you can make him fall for you and then dump him, I’ll give you half a million,” someone else said.

“Deal,” Chloe said.

That was why he had been cold to her all those years.

He was terrified of being abandoned again. It felt safer never to have her than to have her and lose her.

But he wasn’t that strong.

After that night, something in him had snapped. He would have done anything to keep her — even if it meant letting her use him.

If she ever got bored, he’d lock her away. He’d turn himself into whatever she wanted him to be.

But Chloe didn’t want him anymore. How could she just walk away?

He had finally caught hold of his light, and he was never letting go.
