My Villainess Script Has A Glitch Chapter 08

The comments went quiet for a few days after Nathaniel met Audrey Bennett.

Blair said she wasn’t feeling well and asked me to go to the hospital with her. When we got there, the sign above the department entrance read OB-GYN.

“When did this happen?” I asked.

“I’m not sure yet,” she said. “That’s what I’m here to find out.”

“And if you are?”

“I’m keeping it. The guy can get lost,” she said. “It’s not like I can’t afford a baby.”

She was barely done with the exam before the guy showed up.

Blair shoved the paperwork into my hands. “Hold this. Wait for the results. I need to deal with him.”

I sat on the bench, still trying to process what had just happened.

[Wait, why is she at the hospital? If she sees the leads together, she’s going to lose it.]

[What if Audrey sees them and gets the wrong idea?]

[She’s been keeping a low profile lately — I almost forgot she existed. She’s a ticking time bomb.]

[Honestly, it’s better if she sees them now and gets it over with. Better than her blowing things up later.]

[Love triangle showdown. This is the content I’m here for.]

[If she makes a scene, Nathaniel is going to tear her apart in front of everyone.]

The comments were flying by. I looked up, and there they were — Nathaniel and Audrey.

So this was the one. She had that look — the ultimate girl-next-door look everyone falls for.

Standing side by side, they looked like they belonged together.

Nathaniel’s eyes caught the OB-GYN sign behind me. Then his gaze dropped to me, dark and unreadable.

I looked away and walked past him. I had results to pick up.

Blair came back a while later, with the guy trailing behind her, his eyes red-rimmed.

The results were in. Blair was pregnant.

The guy broke down in tears.

“Stop crying,” Blair said. “You have no claim to this child.”

“It’s my baby too,” he said.

Blair rubbed her temples. She turned to me, apologetic.

“Thanks for coming, Chloe,” she said. “But I need to handle this. You okay getting home?”

I told her it was fine.

I was almost at the hospital entrance when Nathaniel’s car pulled up next to me.

The window slid down. He watched me in silence, and his eyes were cold enough to burn.

“Get in,” he said.

I kept walking.

Nathaniel got out of the car, caught my wrist, and pulled me inside.

I almost laughed. What the hell was he doing?

“Is it mine?” he said.

I didn’t understand. What was he talking about?

His eyes dropped to my stomach, and his stare settled on me like a physical weight.

It hit me then — he thought I was pregnant. That was what all of this was about.

I settled back against the seat. Something bitter and heavy coiled in my chest.

“Relax,” I said. “I’m not pregnant. And even if I were, I’d get rid of it.”

His face lost all its color. Even his lips went pale.

“You hate me that much, Chloe Kensington?” he said.

“Drop the act,” I said. “You can’t stand me either.”

“I was immature,” I told him. “I know I wouldn’t take no for an answer before. That’s over now. I won’t come near you again.”

Whatever he had with Audrey, I wasn’t going near it.

I’ll admit it — seeing those comments about the two of them together stung. But I was more afraid of turning into the person those comments said I was.

I wanted to be like Blair — free, unbothered, living on my own terms. I didn’t want to be the villain who gets destroyed at the end of the story.
