They Erased Me, So I Rewrote My Life Chapter 05

They always believed that if they blocked every road, I would have no choice but to turn back.

“You don’t need a daughter,” I said. “You need an obedient political asset. Savannah fits the bill. I don’t. That’s why you want to get rid of me.”

“Eliza!” His patience snapped. “Don’t you dare speak to me in that tone. I am protecting you, and I am protecting this family.”

“I’m protecting myself.”

I placed my phone on the desk in front of him.

“Half an hour ago, my lawyer sent an anonymous tip to your biggest opponent.”

Father’s expression shuttered.

I went on, my voice flat.

“The tip alleges that Senator Walton, in order to hold onto conservative voters, is illegally interfering with his biological daughter’s educational choices and has subjected her to long-term psychological control. I imagine Senator Martin’s team would be very interested in that story.”

Just then, Father’s phone rang.

The name on the screen made his face darken.

He didn’t answer.

“Ethan can go to any school you arrange for him.” I picked up my bag and walked toward the door. “That’s your territory. Leave me out of it.”

At the doorway, I looked back at him.

“And stop calling me sweetheart. You sound like you’re canvassing for votes.”
