The Mafia Don’s Contract Wife Chapter 06

The Mafia Don’s Contract Wife Chapter 06

I moved back into my old apartment, the one I’d lived

in before the marriage of convenience

I unpacked my luggage briefly then settled down on the

sofa to rest

Probably due to the pregnancy, my lower back ached

constantly lately, and I grew tired far more easily

I brushed a hand over my stillflat stomach

Yet inside, I was filled with quiet hope and joy

I’d lived alone for most of my life, and this little life

tied to me was incredibly precious

The next day, I headed out to shoot a magazine cover

When the shoot wrapped, my agent Vivian came to pick

me up

You only have one guest film role and one brand event

left, she said. After that, you can take it easy and rest

properly.”

We’ll announce publicly that you’re going abroad to study for a year. Just remember to post updates every

now and then.”

Vivian studied me for a long moment before she

couldn’t hold back her question

Are you really not going to tell Don?”

As one of the very few who knew about our contract marriage, Vivian rarely meddled in my private affairs

But this time, she’d brought it up time and again

I truly think Don has feelings for you beyond the

contract.”

Paper agreements aside, this baby could be your chance to change everything.”

I knew Vivian meant well, but I could be stubborn. It

was just how I was wired

I’d rather not tell him.”

I’m keeping this baby because she’s mine, nothing

more, nothing less.”

There was something I kept unsaid

I didn’t want Vincenzo to stay trapped in this

contractual marriage just because of the child

Vivian fell quiet for a long while, then sighed softly

Take good care of yourself. Call me the second anything happens, don’t try to handle everything alone, alright?”

I will.”

That night, I was packing my things at home when Vivian called out of the blue

She told me a wealthy tycoon’s granddaughter was

big fan of mine, and the family had personally sent a birthday party invitation, asking if I’d attend

I thought it over and agreed

The tycoon’s mansion sat on the city’s outskirts, and

the party had barely started when I arrived

To my surprise, Ryan was there too

He spotted me at once and excused himself from the

crowd to walk over

Serena, what are you doing here?”

I smiled faintly. Vivian asked me to come and make an

appearance.”

Ryan lowered his voice. My agent forced me to show up too, said it’s good to network with influential people.”

I handed over my gift, wished the birthday girl well, and posed for a few photos with her. Planning to grab some light food and head home early, I stepped out onto the terrace to escape the stuffy hall

I’d barely sat down when I heard footsteps by the door

Assuming it was Ryan trailing after me again, I looked

up without thinking

Why do you keep hovering around me?”

Two of the terrace lights were broken, leaving the

space dimly lit.

Vincenzo’s tall, imposing figure stood in the doorway

instantly recognizable

He took two slow steps forward, his tone lazy and

unconcerned

Don’t you have anything better to do? Not many

people speak to me that way.”

I fell awkwardly silent and glanced away. I wasn’t

talking to you”

Were you waiting for someone else?”

No”

His gaze swept over my face, and he flicked an eyebrow

lightly

You look rather surprised to see me.”

I really was caught off guard

The Conti family was wealthy, but this was merely a birthday celebration for a young family member. It was hardly an event grand enough to warrant Vincenzo’s

presence

I prodded the cake on my plate with a fork, awkwardly

changing the subject

Heard you were out of town. When did you get back?”

This afternoon.”

Did you wrap up all your business?”

More or less.”

I see.”

A heavy silence settled between us

I stole a glance toward the exit, tempted to ask when

he’d be free to sign the divorce papers

But he stood there, his expression aloof, distant. It

didn’t seem like the right moment

He’d probably not even made it back to the house yet

let alone seen the divorce agreement I’d left behind

I’d bring it up another time

I stood up with my plate, ready to head home

A narrow walkway, only wide enough for one person

led from the terrace to the exitand Vincenzo was standing right in the middle of it, blocking my path

I glanced at the slim gap beside himtoo narrow to slip through. Don,I said, you’re in my way.”

Don, you’re blocking my way.”

I know I am.‘

Even so, he stood perfectly still, making no move to

step aside

The shadows deepened here, halfobscuring his face so

I couldn’t read his expression

His voice remained slow and unhurried

Serena, I came here today to get an answer from you.”

After what happened that night, don’t you think you owe me responsibility?
