The Mafia Don’s Contract Wife Chapter 03

The Mafia Don’s Contract Wife Chapter 03

I stared blankly for a moment before realizing we were in the elevator.

And I was nestled in Vincenzo’s arms, his coat draped over me.

This was definitely an awkward situation I couldn’t handle.

I was debating whether to keep pretending to sleep when Vincenzo looked down at me.

“Awake?”

There was no way to feign sleep anymore.

“Why didn’t you wake me up?”

“Put me down please.”

Vincenzo didn’t move an inch, only arched a brow faintly.

“I’m perfectly capable of carrying you these few steps.”

I fell speechless.

Anything I said now would sound like I doubted his strength.

The last time I’d questioned him, it had led to quite the intense consequence.

So this time, I wisely kept quiet.

I had no appetite for dinner, ate only a little, and planned to head back to my room.

The moment I stood up, my vision blurred and my head spun.

Vincenzo reached out instantly, steadying me by the waist.

“Dizzy?”

“Just stood up too fast, I’m fine.”

He didn’t let go, instead gently pressed me back into the chair.

“Sit down.”

Then he turned and went to the kitchen, returning with a glass of warm honey water.

He stood beside me, a slight frown on his face.

“Is this also from gastritis?”

My fingers tightened around the cup, and I lowered my eyes.

“I filmed a water scene yesterday. I must have caught a chill.”

Vincenzo fell into thought for a moment.

“When did you take this role? I don’t recall this movie being on your original schedule.”

I was genuinely surprised.

Vincenzo was swamped with work, yet he still found time to check an actress’s schedule.

No wonder he ran such a powerful empire.

“The original actress sprained her ankle,” I explained quietly. “The director asked me to fill in last minute as a favor.”

“I had a free slot, so I agreed. My agent knows all about it.”

Vincenzo dropped the subject and changed the topic.

“When was your last physical checkup?”

I froze slightly and answered instinctively, “I can’t remember.”

“Free up some time soon, and get a full medical exam.”

I thought he was just being polite and was about to agree casually, until I met his dark, intense gaze.

His eyes were so earnest that I got the strange feeling he intended to go with me.

I suddenly stumbled over my words.

Vincenzo already pulled out his phone. “I’ll arrange it.”

I panicked and grabbed his sleeve.

“I’ll go next month.”

I did the math quickly in my head. By then, the divorce proceedings would be underway. He’d surely be too busy to bother with this.

Putting it off was the best choice.

Vincenzo glanced down at my fingers holding his sleeve, his expression softening a little.

“Let me know once you set the date.”

“Alright.”
