My Made‑Up Werewolf Mate Sent Me Gifts Chapter 03

My Made‑Up Werewolf Mate Sent Me Gifts Chapter 03: The Truth I Could Not Accept
Excitement hit me at the same time as a splitting headache.

My vision grew blurrier and blurrier.

Then everything went black.

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself lying in a hospital.

Nonno sat beside me, his eyes red.

“Vee, you’re finally awake. You scared me to death…”

“Nonno, I’m fine. Don’t worry.”

Just then, Officer Mara came in.

She stood beside my bed and looked at me with a serious expression.

“Vee Stone, we checked. Your account did receive transfers totaling one hundred and one million. But the strange part is, no matter what method we use, we cannot trace the source. The money appeared out of nowhere.”

I bit my lip and regretted going to the police a little.

“Um… Officer, can I withdraw the report?”

“Why?” Mara studied me.

I stammered, “That money… that money was from my Mate.”

Nonno whipped his head toward me.

“Vee, what nonsense are you saying? Since when do you have a Mate?”

“I do,” I whispered. “I really do have a Mate.”

Mara lowered her eyes and flipped through the file in her hand.

“Vee Stone, your records show that you have never married a human or entered a mate bond with a werewolf.”

I quickly said, “No. We just never registered. The Moon Goddess can witness our bond.”

Nonno was stunned.

“Vee, when did you get into a relationship? Why doesn’t Grandpa know? What does he do for work that he can give you that much money?”

Mara kept staring at me too, suspicion all over her face.

“Vee, we cannot trace the source of this money at all. That is extremely abnormal. I need you to contact your Mate now and ask how he transferred this money.”

I pressed my lips together.

“He’s on a business trip lately. He’s very busy. I can’t reach him… Officer, can I withdraw the report?”

Mara was silent for a moment, then asked, “You also said strange photos of a man appeared on your phone. What was that about?”

My mind raced.

“That’s my Mate. I fought with him and said nonsense.”

I knew she did not believe me.

No one would believe a word of my explanation.

Mara stared at me for a long time before saying, “We will be watching closely. Before we figure this out, do not leave the city.”

After she left, Nonno held my hand, his tone full of worry.

“Vee, tell Grandpa the truth. Where did this Mate come from? Where did that money come from? I only have one granddaughter. You cannot get involved in anything illegal.”

My nose stung. I gripped his hand.

“Nonno, relax. I really didn’t do anything illegal.”

Nonno was still worried.

“Then tell me. What is going on with all that money?”

I took a deep breath and dodged.

“I’ll explain everything clearly after some time.”

Nonno sighed and did not press further.

The doctor said I had only fainted because I got too emotional.

Nothing was seriously wrong.

So that afternoon, I was discharged and went to work.

But the moment I entered the office, I felt the atmosphere shift.

The office, usually lively and noisy, suddenly went quiet when I appeared.

My coworkers looked at me strangely too.

I scratched my head and walked to my desk.

Jenna rolled her chair over and lowered her voice.

“Vee, the police contacted us this morning.”

My stomach tightened.

“The police? Why did they contact you?”

“To ask about you. Who you usually interact with, whether anything seemed off, and about your mate.” Jenna stared at me. “Tell me the truth. What exactly does your mate do? Yesterday, your birthday dinner cost over ten thousand dollars. The more we thought about it, the weirder it felt. You’ve been here three months, and none of us have ever seen your mate. You also never looked rich. How did you suddenly…”

She did not finish.

But the meaning was obvious.

I was so overwhelmed by her questions that I had no idea how to answer.

“My mate… he just does business.”

“What kind of business?”

“Ordinary business.”

Seeing that I would not say more, Jenna’s gaze grew even stranger.

I sat at my desk, uncomfortable all over.

Just then, Mara came over.

This time she was not alone. She brought another officer with her.

The two walked straight to me.

“Vee Stone, please explain again. Where did the money in your account come from?”

I lowered my head.

“I told you. My Mate gave it to me.”

“Then what is your Mate? What does he do? Provide his contact information. We need to contact him.”

I stood.

“We had a fight. I deleted all his contact information in anger. I never memorized his number either. He also cut the link between us.”

At my answer, visible emotion flashed across Mara’s face.

“Vee Stone, please cooperate with our investigation.”

“I am cooperating. I really can’t provide it.”

Mara stared at me, then said, “We suspect you are involved in a high-tech crime.”

“High-tech crime? What does that mean?” coworkers whispered.

Mara said, “Why did you report the case, then withdraw it? Where did the money in your account come from? Why can’t we trace the source? Does your so-called Mate really exist? With so many suspicious points, we have reasonable grounds to suspect you are involved in some new type of crime we do not yet understand.”

I panicked.

“I’ve told you countless times, the money was from my Mate.”

Mara kept pressing the same points.

“Then who is your Mate? Where is he? Why can he transfer such a large sum without leaving a trace? What technology did he use? Also, Vee, we checked. The expensive packages you received recently also came from unknown sources.”

After hearing the police say that, the office became louder and louder.

“I knew something was wrong. Vee has a problem. Her mate has an even bigger problem.”

“Exactly. Has anyone actually seen her mate? No.”

Question after question made my head swim.

In a panic, I blurted out, “Since you can’t find anything, then stop looking. Can’t you just look the other way?”

Mara stared at me in disbelief.

“Vee, do you know what you’re saying?”

I took a deep breath.

“I know. I know you all think something is wrong with me.

“But I cannot explain these things to you.

“If I tell you everything, none of you will be able to accept it.”
