I Worked 18 Years for His Son, He Pushed Me Off a Roof for Her Chapter 09

The door burst open. Two officers charged through, caught Julian’s wrist mid-swing, wrenched it behind his back, and slammed him face-down onto the floor.

“Get off him!” Martha shrieked. “You can’t just barge in here — what right do you have to arrest my son?!”

The officer turned, unimpressed. “The funeral home case isn’t even closed yet. You said you’d work things out quietly — is this what that looks like? Showing up to assault her in a hospital bed?”

He looked at me. “Ms. Vance, are you all right?”

I shook my head and kept my voice steady. “Officer — how much time could they be looking at for all of this?”

The officer glanced down at Julian, pinned to the floor. “Fraud, falsified records, aggravated assault — and now today’s attempted assault on top of that. If prosecutors stack the charges, the ringleader could be looking at decades behind bars.”

Julian went rigid. Then he thrashed against the floor like a cornered animal. “I didn’t! I didn’t touch her — I was only trying to scare her…”

“Scare her? You people broke her finger last time.” The officer cuffed Julian, expressionless, then moved on to Martha and Arthur.

“Let’s go. You can explain everything downtown.”

They dragged all three of them out. Martha and Arthur wailed the whole way down the corridor, every patient on the floor craning to watch.

At the door, Julian twisted around to find me, panic and desperation written all over his face. “Clara! Clara, please — tell them it was a misunderstanding! I’m begging you — I can’t go to prison. If I go to prison, my life is over.”

Is that so?

Funny. In my last life, it was my life that had been destroyed — completely, irreversibly. Decades of grinding myself to dust, and the last word I ever heard them say was ‘idiot.’

I settled back against the pillow, smiling as I watched them disappear down the hall. This was only the beginning. Nowhere near enough.

That afternoon, someone’s phone video of Julian being cuffed and dragged out of the hospital went viral. The patients from my ward started posting their own versions of what happened.

[You have NO idea. This family walked in with homemade food, fussing over her like she was their princess. We all thought they were the sweetest in-laws alive. Turns out they’re monsters.]

[The husband faked his own death. The in-laws tried to force her to sign. The best friend helped cover it up. They were trying to make this girl adopt the husband’s affair baby — a baby with leukemia — and when she refused, they BROKE HER FINGER. If she’d signed, she’d have been paying medical bills for the rest of her life.]

[Thank God she called the cops. If she hadn’t, these people would’ve destroyed her. I’ve never seen anything this disgusting in my entire life.]

The comment section exploded.

[Wait isn’t this the same guy who faked his death to trick his wife into raising his affair baby??]

[She JUST had a miscarriage and they showed up at the hospital to harass her. If the cops hadn’t gotten there when they did, he would’ve hit her again!]

[That whole family is sick.]

[Does anyone know who these people are? Drop the names.]

[Arrested. GOOD. I hope she pushes every charge she can. Lock them all up.]

The Thornes went from unknown to infamous overnight. Someone who knew them leaked their names and photos, and within a day the whole city had seen their faces.

The Thorne family was now the most hated name in town.
