He Secretly Married His Mistress While Living Off My Money—So I Stripped His Wealth Overnight Chapter 06

His hands trembled, sending the bedding tumbling onto the floor.

Thick viscous blood soaked the white bed linens, spreading into dark gruesome stains impossible to ignore.

All color drained instantly from Brendan’s face, cold creeping from the soles of his feet straight to his fingertips as if trapped inside an icy cellar.

His Adam’s apple bobbed repeatedly as he mumbled hollow, delusional denials.

“This can’t be Sorrel’s blood.”

“The nurse must’ve mixed up patient rooms through carelessness.”

“Sorrel’s always running off somewhere, impossible to keep track of.”

Cloying iron-rich blood odor flooded his nostrils, coiling around him like sticky serpents to choke his calm

and fray his temper.

Brendan forced his gaze away and stalked toward the exit.

Before he could take two full steps, a soft body latched onto his arm.

Maren beamed brightly, clutching a fresh prenatal ultrasound scan report and shoving it into his sight

excitedly.

“Look closely, Brendan! Our baby’s perfect. Do you hope for a little boy or girl?”

The tiny gestational sac was clearly visible on the scan, the source of her smug pride.

Brendan had rushed into marriage solely upon learning Maren’s pregnancy.

He’d cherished their unborn child above everything else, or so he’d thought.

Yet the gruesome pool of blood stayed burned into his mind, refusing to fade away.

Bulging veins pulsed violently across his forehead, panic choking his airflow.

For the very first time, he had no patience left for Maren.

He answered flat and detached. “Either’s fine by me.”

The moment the words left his mouth, his hand drifted toward his pocket to grab his phone and call Sorrel.

He needed to learn where she’d gone and whether that blood belonged to her.

His fingers brushed empty fabric and harsh reality crashed down.

He’d crushed Sorrel’s cellphone beneath his shoe earlier, broken and abandoned in the hospital corridor.

Overwhelming frustration, panic and helplessness gnawed at his insides.

He cursed quietly, stuffed his own phone back in his pocket and caught a passing duty nurse by the arm.

Impatience sharpened every syllable of his question.

“Where’s the female patient who claimed stomach pain earlier? Did she check out on her own?”

The young nurse blinked blankly while sorting through her memories.

“No stomach-pain patient was admitted here today.”

Brendan’s voice rose sharp and frantic.

“That can’t be right! Tall woman with long loose hair, white top paired with a blue long dress, stunning

features!”

The nurse stiffened under his sudden hostile outburst before realization dawned.

“Oh! You’re talking about the pregnant woman who hemorrhaged badly!”

“Pregnant?” Brendan’s pupils blew wide, a crushing grip squeezing his heart tight.

“Exactly,” the nurse said, oblivious to his spiraling panic.

“Word’s floating around she was a homewrecker chasing a married man; neither the partner nor his legal spouse would approve treatment, so no staff dared step in. It’s karmic payback for her choices.”

“She lost so much blood her family rushed her out for emergency transfer; no one knows if she or the

unborn baby survived.”

Each sentence drove a jagged blade deep into Brendan’s chest.

His fingers clamped painfully around the nurse’s forearm, eyes blazing bloodshot and ferocious.

“What did you just say?”
