The Wedding He Skipped Became My Ticket To An Empire Chapter 05

He clicked the link immediately, but the article was maddeningly vague No photo, no names beyond the

family titles, not even a date

Ethan let out a relieved breath and smiled to himself

What had he even been worried about? How could a bastard child like her possibly marry into the powerful

Cross family, especially to Julian Cross, the undisputed heir?

The Moreaus were wealthy, but they had a proper eldest daughter, the legitimate one. I would never be

chosen for an alliance like that.

Ethan waved goodbye to Chloe and flew the helicopter to the hospital. But when he arrived at the operating room, doctors were rushing past him, pushing a man covered in blood.

He frowned. If the custom heart hadn’t arrived, how did her grandmother have the surgery? Was she lying to

him?

Annoyed, Ethan walked toward my grandmother’s private room. But when he got there, a little girl lay in the bed. He flagged down a doctor who was making rounds.

“Where is the patient who was in this room?”

The doctor adjusted his glasses. “You mean Eleanor Vance? She passed away. The surgery failed.”

Ethan’s mind went blank. “How? She only had Alzheimer’s. How could she just die?”

The doctor sighed. “Her granddaughter was livestreamed being attacked as a mistress. The patient saw it

and went into cardiac arrest. The custom heart didn’t arrive in time. She missed the window.”

Ethan felt like he had been slapped. Then ice-cold dread washed over him.

He had only borrowed the custom heart temporarily. He hadn’t meant to kill my grandmother.

Overcome with regret and panic, he called me with shaking hands. No one answered.

He took the elevator to the rooftop helipad and flew back to Ashford Estate.

The helicopter landed in the yard, crushing the bluebell garden he had planted. He didn’t care. He ran inside.

“Sophia?”

He searched every room, calling her name. I was nowhere to be found. Then he realized something.

His face went pale as he pushed open the bedroom door. My side of the walk-in closet was completely

empty

His heart pounded. His temples throbbed. He searched the entire house again. Every trace of me was gone. Not even a toothbrush remained.

He reopened the news alert

[Moreau-Cross Alliance Ms Moreau Marries Mr Cross]

He forwarded it to his group chats, asking for details. No one could give him any

The Moreau and Cross families kept a low profile No photos, no ceremony details

They didn’t move in circles that high. They couldn’t find out anything.

Ethan held onto a sliver of hope. He texted his cousin Gregory, the head of the Holloway family.

[The Moreaus eldest daughter is only twenty-two, right?]

[Yes]

Ethan exhaled in relief. Finally, he sat down and texted me.

[Sophia, I’m so sorry I was late. The hospital said your grandmother passed away.]

[I know you must be devastated. Where are you? I’ll come to you right now.]
