He Gave Me a Divorce, I Gave Him Ruin Chapter 23

He Gave Me a Divorce, I Gave Him Ruin Chapter 23

A year later, I was back in New York for a charity dinner.

At the hotel entrance, I saw Ethan. He was wearing a uniform.

He was working as a valet.

The proud, arrogant heir to the Sterling fortune was gone. In his place was a man with exhaustion and numbness in his eyes. When he took a guest’s car keys, he bent his back slightly, his movements practiced, as if he’d been doing this for a long time.

I felt no pity.

Just a surprising sense of calm.

I even had the spare thought to wonder about Chloe.

With the money from the book and the recording, she was probably living lavishly in Europe, still packaging herself as an independent woman on social media. Perhaps one day she and Ethan would cross paths again in some corner of the world and resume their mutual torment.

But that had nothing to do with me anymore.

I didn’t let Ethan see me. I turned and walked into the hotel’s brightly lit lobby.

The award ceremony for my father’s memorial scholarship was a success.

Later, looking at the proposal for the foundation’s next project, my eyes suddenly stung.

Sunlight poured in through the window, warm and bright.

In my heart, I said softly,

“Dad, I’m doing very well now. And I’m doing work we both believed in.”
