He Gave Me a Divorce, I Gave Him Ruin Chapter 21

Ethan’s expression curdled.

There was fear in his eyes, but also humiliation—partly because of the rifle, and partly because Lucas had just walked out of my house.

Forced to back away, his gaze darted between me and Lucas. Finally, he shouted at me.

“Are you sleeping with him?!”

I just sneered, refusing to give him the satisfaction of an answer.

My silence seemed to unnerve him more than any retort could have.

Lucas held the rifle steady, forcing Ethan and the still-sobbing Chloe step by step back through the iron gates.

Only when they were both off my property did Lucas slowly lower the gun.

I had just turned to go back inside when I heard Ethan’s phone ring.

He answered it frantically. I could hear the urgent, tinny sound of his lawyer’s voice from where I stood.

I watched from the top of the steps as Ethan’s expression shifted from anger to blank confusion, and finally to an ashen gray.

I suddenly remembered what my lawyer had told me on the phone the day before.

The time was right.

The last file should be delivered to the committee.

Looking at Ethan’s face, as if his entire world was collapsing, I almost laughed.

Instead, I silently mouthed two words at him.

“It was me.”

Ethan’s composure shattered completely.

He sagged against his car, his mouth hanging open, but no sound came out.

I had no interest in watching the rest of the show. I turned and closed the heavy wooden door behind me.

With a solid thud, the outside world was cut off.

Outside the gates, Ethan stood frozen for a few seconds before the news that the trust was convening an emergency meeting jolted him back to reality.

He stumbled into his car, desperate to get back to New York.

He had to go back. He had to fix this.

Even though, in his heart, he already knew it was too late.
