“To start her own company,” Caleb said. “Across Red Creek River, on the land her mother left her.”

“What is she doing there? Surveying? Or—”

“Being the boss,” Caleb said flatly.

“That liar! She pretended for years, acting like a fool, and she had us all tricked! Now that this mess has blown up, she just walks away and leaves us with the wreckage!”

“She just left a letter, said she was going across the river to start a business. She’s barely an adult, running off without a word!”
