He Scorned Me, Now I’m a CEO He Can’t Afford Chapter 08

Meanwhile, at Rattlesnake Ranch.

The office smelled of coffee and old leather.

Wyatt stood with several of his senior cowboys around a large map, planning the next season’s pasture rotation.

“Move the herd north next week,” he said, his finger tapping a circle on the map. “That ground has the best grass right now.”

Billy, a young cowboy leaning against the door and scrolling on his phone, suddenly straightened up. “Holy hell. You guys have to see this.” He held up his phone. “This year’s Texas Young Agriculturalist Award winner is from right here in Red Creek County!”

Everyone in the office looked up.

“Red Creek County?” An old cowboy whistled, then grinned at Wyatt. “That’s got to be you, boss. I told you that irrigation project of yours was a winner!”

A chorus of agreement followed, everyone assuming it had to be Wyatt.

In all of Red Creek County, the only ranch pushing serious technical upgrades was Rattlesnake.

But Wyatt didn’t smile.

His brows drew together.

He had submitted a proposal.

But he had received the rejection email last week.

It was a failure he had no intention of discussing.

If it wasn’t him, then who could it be?

Before he could finish the thought, he heard Billy suck in a sharp breath.

Wyatt’s face darkened.

“What the hell is it now, Billy?”
