My Husband’s Heir Cost Him His Own Daughter Chapter 16

He suddenly shook Savannah off.

The force of it sent her staggering back.

The woman who had just been clinging to him, whispering “that’s wonderful,” now looked like a nauseating stranger.

“Don’t touch me.” Carter’s voice was raw, each word scraping his throat.

He couldn’t stay here.

Every smiling face at this party, every “congratulations on your heir,” was a jeer at his own stupidity.

He turned, snatched his car keys from a passing waiter’s tray, and strode away.

Savannah scrambled after him.

“Carter, where are you going? The guests are still here!”

“To find Amelia.” He didn’t look back, but for the first time, a note of pure panic broke through his voice. “She just gave birth. I made her go into labor. I promised her I’d be there. I have to find her.”

“Find her?” Savannah’s voice shot up an octave. “Today is Jamie’s party! His first official appearance! You’re going to abandon us for a woman who has already divorced you?”

“I can’t leave Amelia alone.” Carter finally turned, his eyes bloodshot. “If I don’t go to her now, what kind of man am I?”
