I was in the middle of a conversation when a sneering voice cut in.

“Well, Ava. Long time no see. You’re looking…substantial.”

I turned. It was Davies.

A distant cousin of Cassidy’s family. One of his investments had been collateral damage in the Hathaway implosion, and he had clearly held a grudge.

“Mr. Davies.” I gave him a cool nod, intending to end the conversation there.

But he wasn’t finished.

“I hear that twenty-million-dollar payoff has been laundered into a respectable art foundation?”
