I Took the Money and the Quadruplets Chapter 16

After my parents learned what had happened, they flew from New York to Carmel immediately.

The afternoon they arrived, a convoy of black Cadillac Escalades rolled down my quiet street and stopped in front of the house, disrupting the peaceful seaside rhythm.

The man who got out was not Liam.

It was Walker Sr.

He had brought two lawyers and four enormous bodyguards. He stood at my gate and called my name.

“Ava, come out.”

At the time, I was in the living room with my mother, eating a slice of the apple pie she had just baked.

Julian emerged from the studio, a frown creasing his forehead. He walked to the gate, looking down at the assembly on the street.

“Keep your voice down,” he called out. “This isn’t one of your boardrooms.”

Walker Sr. ignored him completely.

“Tell Ava to come out. She is carrying the children of the Walker family. She will be returning to Texas with us.”

Julian laughed, a sharp, incredulous sound.

“So now you remember the children? That’s not the tune you were singing when you wired her twenty million dollars.”

Walker Sr.’s face was a thundercloud.

“That is the Walker bloodline. They must be born in Texas and raised in Texas. This is not negotiable.”

“That’s not for you to decide.”
