I went back to the bedroom and stuffed the rest of my clothes into the suitcase.

Then I zipped it shut.

Chloe was still sitting on the couch, her face pale.

When she saw me coming downstairs, she shrank back instinctively.

I ignored her and walked straight out of the Reed mansion.

The butler stood by the door, looking at my suitcase.

He opened his mouth, but nothing came out.

I called a cab and went to Attorney Cole’s law office.

“Miss Hale, the bankruptcy filing is ready.”

Attorney Cole pushed the documents toward me.

“Once you sign, the proceedings can begin immediately.”

I picked up the pen and signed my name on the final page.

“Thank you.”

I had just stepped out of the law office when Nathan’s car slammed to a stop in front of me.

The brake screeched.

He shoved the door open and rushed out without even closing it.

His suit was wrinkled.

His pant legs were covered in mud.

His eyes were red, and his chest rose and fell violently.

“Vivian…”

His voice was hoarse beyond recognition.

“I went there… I saw it.”

He took one step forward and tried to take my hand.

I stepped half a step back, avoiding his touch.

Nathan’s hand froze in midair.

“I’m sorry.”

His voice trembled.

“I didn’t know. I really didn’t know.”

“I thought you were angry with me. I thought you just wanted me to lower my head.”

I looked at him.

“Now you know. Can you move?”

Nathan shook his head hard.

He pulled a folded, wrinkled document from his pocket.

“This is the funding contract. I already signed it.”

“Not twenty million. I’ll transfer one hundred million to Hale Group. No, two hundred million.”

“I’ll have someone deal with those loan sharks immediately. I promise they’ll never dare bother the Hale family again.”

He forced the contract into my hand.

“Vivian, take it. The company can still be saved.”

I looked down at the contract in my hand.

Then, in front of him, I tore it in half.

Nathan’s eyes widened.

“What are you doing?”

I threw the torn contract into the trash can.

“Nathan Reed, my father is dead.”

“Hale Group has just officially entered Chapter 7 liquidation.”

“Keep your money. Buy Chloe another bag.”

Nathan swayed.

He stared at the trash can, then looked up at me.

“Bankruptcy? Are you insane? That company was your father’s life’s work.”

“Yes. It was his life’s work.”

I spoke calmly.

“And you personally cut off his last way out.”

Nathan’s face went white.

He could barely stand.

His lips trembled for a long time, as if he finally realized what he had done.

“I didn’t mean to…”

He muttered.

“I only wanted you to back down.’

“I know.”

I looked at him.

“You just thought I couldn’t leave you. You thought Hale Group had to rely on you.”

“You thought that as long as you finally gave me a little charity, I would be grateful.”

I pulled up the handle of my suitcase.

“Now you won. Hale Group is gone. I have nothing left either.’

“Nathan Reed, we’re over.

I walked around him and headed toward the cab by the curb.

Nathan suddenly turned and chased after me.

He pressed one hand hard against the car door.

“I don’t allow it.”

He stared at me, madness filling his eyes.

“I don’t allow it. Vivian Hale, you can’t just leave. You’re my wife. If I don’t agree to end this, you

can’t go.”
