He Came Back With Money After Everything Was Gone Chapter 05

The living room was very quiet.

Nathan stared at me.

His Adam’s apple moved.

His voice was hoarse.

“Ethan, what kind of joke is this?”

On the phone, Ethan’s voice broke with tears.

“Nathan, I’m not joking.”

“He said Vivian handled the funeral alone. She didn’t even have anyone to help her.”

Nathan’s hand shook hard.

The phone hit the carpet with a dull thud.

He looked at me.

His breathing quickened, and his chest rose and fell violently.

“Vivian…”

He took one step toward me, his voice trembling.

“Your father… he…”

He could not even finish a sentence.

I looked at him calmly.

“My father is dead.”

Nathan’s face turned deathly pale.

He stared at my face.

“Three days ago? Three days ago was our wedding day.”

“Yes.”

i put the broken piece in my pocket.

“That afternoon, he was forced to the edge of the corporate rooftop by debt collectors and slipped

from the eighteenth floor.”

Nathan stumbled backward.

The fruit bowl on the coffee table fell to the floor and shattered.

He did not feel the pain.

He only looked at me.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

His voice suddenly rose.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I called you twenty-three times.”

I looked at him, my voice flat.

“You didn’t answer one.”

Nathan froze.

He seemed to remember something.

Three days ago in the afternoon.

Chloe had twisted her ankle in stilettos, and he had been with her in the hospital room, helping her

ice it.

His phone had kept ringing.

He found it annoying, so he silenced it.

Later, when he saw the twenty-three missed calls, he assumed I was using that method to force

him home again.

He even sneered and said to Chloe,

“Don’t bother with her. Give her the cold shoulder for a few days, and she’ll behave.”

His eyes were bloodshot.

“Where are his ashes?”

His voice shook violently.

“Where did you bury him?”

“Westside Memorial Park.”

Nathan turned and ran outside.

He did not even take his coat.

He stumbled out the door.

I watched his back disappear.

Then I turned toward the stairs.

I still had to finish packing the rest of my things.
