I Let My Eighteen Year Old Self Cancel Our Engagement Chapter 08

I Let My Eighteen Year Old Self Cancel Our Engagement Chapter 08

Zoey didn’t let things go quietly.

She started playing the victim on campus, telling anyone who would listen that I had it out for her. That I couldn’t accept being dumped, so I faked those chat logs just to ruin her.

But this time, no one bought her story.

Eloise released the full chat records.

The comments exploded again.

[Isn’t this just academic pick-me girl behavior?]

[Calling every guy “friends” while stealing their papers-she’s lucky this isn’t a criminal case.]

[And Owen isn’t innocent either. He has a girlfriend yet enjoys the admiration of a junior labmate every day.]

[Ten years of a girlfriend helping him revise slides, but the acknowledgments go to the junior?

Classy.]

Cornered, Zoey tried to curry favor with Owen again.

She blocked him at the school entrance, crying as she grabbed his sleeve. “Owen, it’s all because of your girlfriend that I’m like this! You can’t just abandon me. If you hadn’t kept giving me hope, I wouldn’t have let so many boys go just to choose you!”

Owen’s face twisted in disgust as he tried to pull his arm away

More and more people stopped to watch. Seeing that Owen wouldn’t budge, Zoey finally dropped all

pretense.

“Now that you’ve graduated and made it, you want to turn around and blame me? You had a girlfriend you were about to marry, and you still played along with me behind her back.”

‘Don’t act like you’re some innocent victim. Yeah, I’m awful, but you’re even more shameless. You just won’t admit it.”

The crowd erupted in shock.

Owen’s face went pale. He couldn’t even manage a single word in his own defense.

That video reached my phone while I was tidying up my new home.

Eighteen-year-old Willow clicked her tongue. “Dog-eat-dog. Pretty entertaining. When I this time, there’s no way I’m saying yes to being with him again.”

I turned off the video.

It wasn’t as satisfying as I imagined.

The delayed truth just felt a little boring.

Owen started calling me late at night.

go back

Drunk, his voice choked with tears and pain. “Willow, I went home today. It’s so empty. Your things are gone. I can’t find your cup, and your clothes aren’t in the closet. Until I opened the files, I realized all of them were covered in your notes.”

He paused, like he was choking up. “How did I never see any of this before?”

I didn’t say anything.

The night outside was deep, but lights shone one by one in the distance.

“Goodbye, Owen. We spent ten years of our youth together. No matter what, I hope life goes smoothly for you from now on. But don’t cross into my life again.”

I hung up and blocked him from all contact.

That night, I slept well.

I didn’t dream of Owen, nor of the engagement party that had been canceled.

The next morning, eighteen-year-old Willow stretched in my mind. See? Leaving him isn’t the end of the world.

I smiled. Yeah, it will be fine.

She giggled, still full of energy. So… will you be afraid in the future?

I thought for a moment. Probably. Starting over at twenty-eight, of course you’d be afraid.

She snorted. What’s there to be afraid of? When you were eighteen, you dared to love someone for ten years. Now it’s just starting over again.

Her words made me laugh.

My phone chimed with the last message from the hotel coordinator: [Your deposit has been fully

refunded. Miss Hardee, we wish you find someone truly worthy in the future.]

I looked at those words and smiled.

The truly worthy person may not have appeared yet.

Or perhaps, they already had.

It was simply the me who finally dared to step forward boldly.
