My Mafia Husband Smelled Like His Secretary, Who Turned Out To Be My Half-Sister Chapter 01

The day I took my daughter Anna for her check-up, Jacob showed up to drive us. He’d been at the docks finalizing a shipping route a few days before.

Jacob ran the entire Kotor underworld. The Kavac family’s undisputed Don. I knew how busy he was.

The second he saw us, he pulled me and Anna into a hug.

My nose caught it—a hint of unfamiliar perfume.

I didn’t say anything until we got in the car and I saw the woman sitting in the back.

She wore a sharp suit, the Kavac family crest pinned to her chest.

She smiled at me. “Hello, Donna. I’m Sophia Scott, new mademan of the Kavac family. I’m the Don’s new secretary.”

Jacob’s voice stayed calm. “She’s heading to the family’s headquarters. I’m giving her a ride.”

But he was the Don of Kotor’s underworld. He didn’t chauffeur his own subordinates.

Sophia looked apologetic. “Donna, please don’t misunderstand. I actually came to apologize.”

She handed me a bag. Inside was my usual brand of sunscreen.

“I forgot to bring mine when the Don and I were at the docks the last couple of days. I accidentally used the one you left in his car…”

I didn’t take it right away.

Her face flickered with panic. Her eyes darted to Jacob for help.

“Take it,” Jacob said.

His voice was flat. Carrying that undeniable authority of a Don who never got refused.

I took the sunscreen and set it aside.

Anna was strapped in her car seat, staring at this new woman with curiosity. Her eyes fixed on the candy in Sophia’s hand.

Just as Sophia started unwrapping it to feed her, I finally spoke up.

“Anna just saw the dentist. No candy.”

Sophia quickly waved her hands. “It’s not cheap candy, I promise—”

Jacob frowned from the driver’s seat. “Polly, she’s just being nice. Don’t make a thing out of it.”

Anna immediately shook her head. “Thanks, but I do what my mom says.”

Sophia’s hand pulled back awkwardly.

The car wound through the streets of Kotor and stopped in front of a skyscraper. Sophia got out and apologized to me again. I gave her a small nod.

On the drive back to the estate, Jacob’s voice softened again.

“Don’t be upset. She’s new to the Kavac organization. She takes everything seriously. Sometimes she doesn’t even listen to me.”

His eyes held a hint of a smile. Almost admiration. “She’s got personality.”

When the car stopped in front of the estate’s main hall, Anna’s voice from the back seat shattered every bit of illusion from that whole meeting.

“Mom, she smells good. She smells like Daddy.”

Jacob’s smile froze.

I forced a casual smile. “Daddy’s car naturally smells like him. She just picked some up when she rode with him.”

“Oh.” Anna seemed to buy it.

I got out and hurried to lift Anna from her seat.

But Jacob’s voice came cold. Carrying a warning.

“If managing the estate is too exhausting for you, I can hire someone to raise Anna. She’s the Kavac family’s only Principessa. I won’t let her suffer because of your incompetence.”

From the day I became Donna of the Kavac family, I’d learned the rules of this underworld empire.

The year Anna was born, I threw a fit.

That was the first time I saw him truly angry.

When he lost it, his face went ice cold. His voice shook with rage. “Polly, I gave you the title and the status. I can take them back just as easily.”

I thought about Anna’s future.

And just like that, the fight died.

After that, I learned to behave.

Because no matter how many women came and went, he still remembered there was a family waiting for him at the estate.

Sometimes I told myself I was his Donna. Maybe that meant something to him.

Then Sophia showed up. And he shattered that fantasy himself—by bringing her right in front of me without any warning.
