My Marriage: His Debt to Another Woman Chapter 12

It wasn’t that I hadn’t considered the practicalities.

If I was going to have this child, how would I support it?

I hadn’t worked a full-time job during our marriage; Jake had covered most of our expenses. Now that I was pregnant, few companies would be willing to hire someone who’d be on maternity leave in a matter of months.

Fortunately, I wasn’t starting from scratch.

Over the years, to fill the long, lonely hours, I had poured all my spare time into my Etsy jewelry shop. In the eyes of Jake and his friends, it was just a hobby, something to keep me busy. But looking at the orders and income on my shop’s dashboard, I knew that for now, at least, I could support myself and my child.

My phone lit up.

The caller ID was Jake.

I understood him. A man like him was used to being the center of someone’s universe. When the person who had always orbited him suddenly broke away, of course he’d feel the shift.

I declined the call.

Since I’d decided to leave, I didn’t want any more needless complications.

To stop the calls, I went to the nearest T-Mobile store and got a new number, sharing it with only a few close friends.

Without Jake, my life grew quiet.

Of course, it wasn’t easy to erase ten years of feelings overnight.

I had been in love with Jake for a decade.
